Population
The population is largely black, with a small minority of mulattoes. There are also very small groups of South Asians and Whites. More than two-thirds of the population live in rural areas. The official language is English. The main religious denominations are Anglican and Methodism, with a smaller number of Roman Catholics. Saint Kitts and Nevis has traditionally experienced a high rate of emigration, which offsets the demographic boom and allows the islands to maintain a fairly stable population. About two-thirds of the population are between the ages of 15 and 60.
