In a Murano glassworks, the master takes the rod out of the furnace, blows, turns, and the orange mass becomes an object in under a minute. The third day's excursion then moves on to Burano, its houses painted colour by colour and its lace, still made by a few artisans. All of it with a French-speaking guide, six hours in the lagoon.
Embarkation takes place at the port of Ravenna, after two nights in Venice. The Norwegian Viva runs down the Adriatic to Dubrovnik, which Lord Byron called the pearl of the Adriatic, then Kotor, wedged between the mountains and its bay behind twenty-metre walls. The route then follows Italy: Salerno at the end of the Amalfi Coast, Civitavecchia for Rome, and fifteen hours in Livorno, enough for Florence and Pisa in the same day.
Villefranche comes next, six kilometres from Nice, then Palma de Mallorca and its Gothic cathedral. The ship docks in Barcelona at dawn on the thirteenth day. The day continues at the Torres winery, with a tasting and lunch, then at the Sagrada Familia, before one last night in the city.
