Crystal: 9 entries in our inventory, 178 departures, and a line that sank then sailed again

Six of the nine entries carry no departure, and there is a reason. On 4 February 2022, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony were seized at Freeport, in the Bahamas, over unpaid fuel. The company filed an assignment for the benefit of creditors on 11 February. A&K Travel Group, the Abercrombie & Kent group, won the brand and the two ocean-going ships at judicial auction in June 2022, with the sale closing on 1 July.

What the house did not get back

Bach, Debussy, Mahler, Mozart, Ravel and Esprit. Six boats that carried the Crystal name and are no longer part of the line. Their pages stay online because you still look for them, and they say what we know of each.

The line is sailing again

Serenity sailed again on 31 July 2023 from Marseille, Symphony on 1 September 2023 from Athens — twenty months after the seizure. They are the two ships carrying almost all our calendar today: 151 and 135 records. In total: nine entries, 178 distinct departures, 165 dates, 301 routes, from 27 June 2026 to 7 January 2029.

A new ship, and three departures that touch Quebec

Crystal Grace had her first steel cut in the week of 28 May 2026 at Fincantieri, in Marghera, for entry into service planned on 11 June 2028. Her inaugural season is already on sale with us: 26 departures, three of which touch Quebec. As with any undelivered hull, ask what happens if delivery is late and have it put in writing.

Should this history worry you?

It is a fair question and we are not going to dodge it. The brand changed hands and today's house is not the one that failed. That said, what protects you is not a shipowner's reputation in any case: it is your agency's licence, the trust account and Quebec's compensation fund. We will not say what the fare covers: ask for the written list of the exact departure.

Because the line went under and did not get everything back. Bach, Debussy, Mahler, Mozart, Ravel and Esprit are no longer part of the house. Their pages stay online because you still look for them, and they say what they know.

Yes, for a fleet making long voyages also sold in segments. One departure then counts several tracks. It is the signature of the segment, not an anomaly.
We will not say it in the line's place. What the fare covers changes here from one departure, market and cabin grade to the next, and we have not measured it departure by departure. Ask your advisor for the written list of the exact departure before booking, not after.
One ship on one date. If the same ship leaves on the same day, that is one departure, not two. Our database holds more records than departures, and what we publish is the number of departures.
No. Everything given here — number of hulls, number of departures, dates, routes — comes from OUR inventory, measured on 31 August. A zero with us is not a zero with them.
Often, yes. Your advisor can look beyond what appears here. The online catalogue is a way in, not the limit of what exists.
The line usually offers a postponement, another ship or a refund, depending on its contract. This is not a classroom hypothesis: deliveries do slip. Have the rule spelled out in writing before paying a deposit on a hull that does not yet exist.
It depends on the departure and the market, not on the line. If French matters to you, say so before booking: it is checked departure by departure.
On these fleets, yes: few ships, few cabins, and the best go early. Booking far ahead fixes a choice but commits money in advance. Talk cancellation terms through with your advisor before you decide.
Your agency, and it alone. Voyages AquaTerra operates under a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur, your payments pass through a trust account, and the compensation fund for travel agency clients covers your departure. That holds whichever line you choose.
