Description
Bangkok welcomes you on the water, with a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya, then reveals itself between the Emerald Buddha, the great Reclining Buddha of Wat Pho and the klongs where the city lives along its banks. You then leave the capital through its most surprising markets: the Damnoen Saduak floating market and Mae Klong, set up on the railway tracks, which folds away as the train passes.
In Kanchanaburi, you cross the Bridge on the River Kwai before reaching a sanctuary where elephants are fed and bathed, with no riding or shows. The road north passes the old Sam Chuk market, a rice barge where pad thai is served, then the brick temples of Sukhothai, the former capital of Siam. Around Chiang Rai, the Akha, Yao and Karen villages precede the Blue Temple and the White Temple.
Chiang Mai offers three nights to taste khao soi, cook with a family in a century-old Lanna house and climb Doi Suthep. The trip ends by the Andaman Sea, in Ao Nang, near the cliffs of Railay.
Highlights:
-Sukhothai, the UNESCO-listed former capital of Siam
-Bangkok, its palaces and canals
