Description
This grand La Collection journey crosses India from south to north before climbing to Nepal, in a small group of 18 travellers at most and in 5-star hotels. Mumbai opens the road, between the Gateway of India and the Dhobi Ghat laundry. Then come the Ajanta and Ellora caves, where monks and sculptors carved entire temples into the cliff.
In Amritsar, you watch the theatrical closing of the Pakistani border, then enter the Golden Temple barefoot. Rajasthan follows: blue Jodhpur, holy Pushkar, pink Jaipur and Amber Fort climbed by elephant. After the Taj Mahal, a train leads to Orchha and the carved temples of Khajuraho.
In Varanasi, the aarti ceremony lights up the ghats, and dawn is spent in a boat on the Ganges. The trip ends in Kathmandu, among the stupas of Swayambhunath and Bodnath, the Newar villages and Patan's royal square.
