Two ships on the same river: how to tell them apart

AmaLyra and its sister both serve the Seine out of Paris. The same 110-metre hull, the same generation, the same French balcony, the same absence of a twin balcony. On paper they are interchangeable.

What separates them is the calendar. Our count on 26 August 2026 finds 102 departure dates for AmaLyra against 94 for its sister, and the spread across years differs. Ninety-two of those dates carry the note "departing from Paris". If your date is fixed, the calendar will choose the ship, not the other way round.

Eight days between Paris and Normandy

The standard route runs eight days round trip from Paris. It heads down to Rouen, the chalk cliffs of the lower Seine, Honfleur, then works back. Giverny is visited early in the morning; the landing beaches are reached by coach from a quay in the lower valley, never by water.

Some programmes carry a particular slant, around wine or a season. The difference lies in the content of the outings, not in the ship.

The hull

A hundred and ten metres, 140 guests, 71 cabins, delivered in 2009. The upper cabins open through a sliding glass wall with a railing. The lift serves only two decks and does not reach the sun deck, which is where the cliffs are watched from.

The other ships in the fleet

AmaDante is its sister on the Seine. AmaCello holds the Saône and the Rhône, AmaDolce the Bordeaux region. AmaBella works the Danube with a longer hull.

What the cruise fare covers

Meals are included, with wine and beer served at lunch and dinner, soft drinks at any hour and a daily cocktail before supper. Guided excursions are included at every port. Wi-Fi is included. Bicycles are aboard, free to use during port calls on the European ships.

Outings are graded by effort: gentle, regular, active. That is not brochure caution. An active visit strings together stairs and slopes for three hours, and anyone who overestimates themselves at the start regrets it on the way back. Choose the level the evening before, not on the morning itself.

Two items are not included and they matter. Gratuities for the crew and the guides remain your responsibility on every destination: the line suggests an amount, it does not charge it. Air travel is not included either, unless bought through the line's own air programme.

Who this ship suits

The clientele is adult. There is no children's club, no childcare and no youth programme, and every traveller under eighteen shares a cabin with a responsible adult. The minimum age varies by destination and grows stricter on the African journeys; have it confirmed for the date you want.

A lift links the main decks, but it does not reach the sun deck, which is accessed by stair. That is where the landscape is watched from. Add to that boarding gangways that vary from quay to quay, and calls where you cross another ship moored alongside to reach the bank. Reduced mobility is prepared for, not improvised.

Booking from Quebec

Voyages AquaTerra operates under a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur. The sums you pay move through a trust account kept separate from the agency's own funds, and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents steps in where the law provides. That protection does not follow a booking made outside Quebec.

The ship is the simple part of the file. The flight, the connection, the hotel night before embarkation and the transfer to the pier make up the rest, and that is where the real comfort of a departure is decided.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Seine, out of Paris, on eight-day round trips toward Normandy. Ninety-two of its dates carry the note "departing from Paris".
The calendar, essentially. Same hull, same generation, same fit-out. We measure 102 dates for this one against 94 for the other, with different spreads across the years.
Our inventory measured 102 departure dates on 26 August 2026, across 2026, 2027 and 2028, almost all departing from Paris.
A hundred and forty guests in 71 cabins, according to figures published by the line. Third-party databases give a higher number; we follow the operator's.
No. The upper cabins have a French balcony, meaning a sliding glass wall with a railing and no outdoor floor, as on the three other 110-metre hulls.
The Seine itineraries lead there, usually early in the morning to arrive ahead of the coaches. The detail depends on the programme, handed out aboard the evening before.
Several itineraries offer them, by coach from a quay on the lower Seine. The ship does not approach by water; the outing is by land and takes a full day.
In 2009, in the Netherlands, in the fleet's first generation: the short hulls assigned to the French basins, drawn before the twin balcony reached the fleet.
By the date. They offer the same product on the same river, so the calendar decides. Your advisor will compare the dates available on both.
No, never automatically. They stay at your initiative and on your account, for the crew as well as for guides and drivers ashore.
No. The fare covers life aboard and the excursions; air travel stays outside it, unless bought through the line's dedicated programme.
Yes, and it is one of the better things this line does: two travellers in the same couple can choose different paces on the same morning without one imposing their stride on the other.
Technically sometimes, practically no. No childcare, no youth activities, a rhythm set by the port calls and short evenings. This product was not designed for that.
It calls for preparation. The lift does not serve the sun deck, gangways vary with the quay, and some calls require crossing a neighbouring ship to reach the bank.
