Aqua Mekong: twenty suites between Cambodia and Vietnam, and twenty-four departures on the calendar

Aqua Mekong works the Mekong between Cambodia and Vietnam. We carry twenty-four departures across twelve dates, from 4 January to 13 December 2027, on two routes. She came out of Saigon Shipyard, in Ho Chi Minh City, in 2014.

The hull

Sixty-two metres forty for twenty suites and forty guests, with as many crew: one to one. The interior is by Noor Design. That ratio is the reason the boat exists; it is also why she looks nothing like a European river vessel of comparable size.

What the format allows, and what it costs

Forty people means arms of the river a hundred-cabin hull cannot climb, villages reached by skiff, and a crew that knows you by the second day. In return there is no tiered pool deck, no theatre, no choice of six restaurants. That is a decision, not a shortfall, and it is worth knowing before comparing with a conventional river cruise.

The house changed hands

Ponant Explorations Group took a majority stake in Aqua Expeditions on 17 January 2025. The brand continues under its own name as a standalone unit, and founder Francesco Galli Zugaro remains a shareholder and its head. If you already know Ponant, this is now the same family, without the ships resembling one another.

The other boats in the fleet

Aqua Nera is the sister hull, out of the same Vietnamese yard in 2020, but she works the Peruvian Amazon. Aria Amazon is the eldest of the fleet, and smaller. And Aqua Lares, which arrived in 2026, is another creature altogether: a former icebreaker of 77 metres.

The line sells fares described as all-inclusive, but we have not measured what they cover boat by boat and we will not assert it here. Ask your advisor for the written list before booking: it is the only answer that protects you.
Aqua Expeditions guides work in English. If French matters to you, say so to your advisor before booking: some lines charter these same boats with French-speaking guiding and others do not, and it has to be checked departure by departure.
Not yet. The address answers, but it is served by a generic template that shows every ship on the site instead of this house's six. We measured it and reported it; meanwhile the boat pages point to one another.
Your agency, and it alone. Voyages AquaTerra operates under a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur, your payments pass through a trust account, and the compensation fund for travel agency clients covers your departure.
Both words apply and neither says everything. There are cabins, service and sit-down meals, as on a cruise. There are also daily outings in small craft, hours set by light and water rather than by a programme, and cancellations for reasons of nature. If you need a fixed schedule, this is not the right trip.
