Which Park to Choose at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida

Short answer: Magic Kingdom Park stays on the itinerary no matter what, EPCOT is the one adults enjoy most, Disney’s Hollywood Studios belongs to the teenagers, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is the most beautiful of the four to walk through. With three park days, keep Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. With four, Animal Kingdom joins the list and nobody regrets it.

That is the ten-second version. The real question, the one we hear on the phone, sounds more like this: how do you please a six-year-old without boring a fourteen-year-old? That is what the rest of this article answers.

Magic Kingdom Park: the one you never cut

This is the castle park, the one your child saw in the movies before knowing it existed for real. Six lands make it up: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. It also holds the highest density of attractions young children can actually ride, which matters enormously when you travel with a four-year-old who does not yet clear half the height signs.

The essentials: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and TRON Lightcycle / Run for anyone who wants speed. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened in spring 2026 with new Rainbow Caverns scenes, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was rebuilt the same year with handheld blasters and interactive targets.

Evenings bring two events: the Happily Ever After show on the castle, and the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away nighttime parade, performed at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Factor in fatigue before choosing: the later showing is calmer, but it gets the family back to the hotel past midnight.

Who it suits: everyone, and families with children aged three to ten above all. If your trip includes only one park day, this is the one.

EPCOT: the park that ages well with its Guests

EPCOT is organized into four neighbourhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature and World Showcase. The last one built its reputation, with country pavilions set around a lagoon, each with its own restaurants, shops and cast members from the country represented. You walk a lot here, and you eat well.

On the attraction side, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind draws the longest lines. Test Track presented by General Motors reopened on 22 July 2025 in a completely reimagined version. Frozen Ever After received new audio-animatronic figures in February 2026, and Soarin’ has shown a new flight over the United States since 2026. The nighttime spectacular is called Luminous The Symphony of Us.

Here is what nobody tells families: EPCOT is the park where a five-year-old gets bored fastest. Few attractions are built for that age, the walking is long, and the biggest lines form at rides they cannot board. Save EPCOT for a late afternoon and evening, when the festivals are in full swing and World Showcase lights up.

About those festivals: the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from 27 August to 21 November 2026, and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays takes over from 27 November to 30 December 2026. Dates for the 2027 festivals are announced later in the year.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: the teenagers’ park

Six areas, and two of them alone justify the day: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance remains the most impressive attraction on property, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has offered a new mission with the Mandalorian and Grogu since 22 May 2026.

Add The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, back in summer 2026 under that new name. Fantasmic! plays in its amphitheatre at night.

One opening to watch: The Magic of Disney Animation opens on 14 September 2026, in a building inspired by the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank. Inside you will find an indoor play space drawn from Mary Blair’s concept art, character greetings organized around the stages of animation, and a drawing class hosted by Olaf.

Who it suits: teenagers, film lovers, and the adults who assumed Disney would not be for them.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: the one you cut short and regret

It is the largest of the four and the most beautiful to walk. Pandora, The World of Avatar delivers: Avatar Flight of Passage regularly ranks among the best attractions in the world, and the land turns bioluminescent at nightfall. Kilimanjaro Safaris carries Guests through a savanna where the animals roam freely, and Expedition Everest remains a safe bet for coaster fans.

Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened on 7 November 2025 at the Tree of Life Theater. No permanent nighttime spectacular is running, which explains why the park closes earlier than the others.

One change to know before you go: DinoLand U.S.A. closed permanently on 2 February 2026. The land makes way for Tropical Americas, announced for 2027, with an Indiana Jones attraction and one inspired by Encanto. During construction the park has one major attraction fewer, and that is what pushes some families to cut the day short.

The two water parks, and the Park Hopper mistake

The resort also includes Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. They earn their place in the middle of a week-long stay, when everyone needs a day without walking twenty kilometres.

Watch the ticket mechanics. The Park Hopper option, which lets you visit more than one theme park in the same day, now applies at any time once you have entered your first park, subject to the second park’s capacity. The old 2 p.m. restriction is gone. That said, Park Hopper covers the four theme parks only: the two water parks are bought separately.

What is closed right now, and how it changes your choice

Three construction projects affect planning. At Magic Kingdom Park, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the riverboat are gone, making room for Piston Peak National Park, a land inspired by Cars. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress has been closed since 6 July 2026 and is expected to reopen in late spring 2027. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppet*Vision 3D and the Grand Avenue area closed in spring 2026 to make way for Monstropolis, part of which opens in 2027.

Disney has announced no official opening date for Villains Land or Piston Peak National Park. If the construction calendar weighs on your decision, our article on what is new at Walt Disney World covers what is opening, what is closing, and whether waiting is worth it.

Three, four or five days: which park gets dropped

Park daysSuggested planWhat you give up
3 daysMagic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, then EPCOT in late afternoon and eveningAnimal Kingdom, and any slack in the schedule
4 daysOne park per day, ordered around the weather and posted park hoursNothing essential. This is the most common format
5 daysAll four parks, plus a second Magic Kingdom day or a water park dayNothing. The most comfortable format for a first visit
7 daysAll four parks, two repeat days at the favourites, one day with no park at allNothing but pace. Put the quiet day in the middle, not at the end

If you could keep only one

Magic Kingdom for a first family visit. EPCOT for a couple. Hollywood Studios for a teenager who grew up on Star Wars. Animal Kingdom for anyone who likes to walk and watch. Those are four good answers. The bad one would be trying to do all of it in two days.
