In a still-working fishing basin at the northwest tip of Zealand, where the harbour guards the mouth of the Isefjord facing the Kattegat. There is no anonymous terminal here: everything happens within walking distance, about 70 kilometres from Copenhagen.

No. The walk from the quays rises gently through tall grass. From the garden the view takes in the whole bay. The clifftop trails then continue between gorse and wild roses, pass the foot of the lighthouse and drop down to pebble coves.
Yes, in the pebble coves at the foot of the cliff, where locals swim — even when the water takes some nerve. The Kattegat stays cold. On a clear day you can make out the Jutland coast on the far side of the strait.

Hundested is a gateway to northern Zealand, a land of royal residences. Excursions reach Frederiksborg and its Renaissance castle set on three islets, or Kronborg, Hamlet's fortress at Elsinore. Copenhagen is feasible on a full day — though many passengers choose to stay put.
