Enchantment of the Seas: the ship cut in two in 2005

On 15 May 2005, at the Keppel Verolme yard in Rotterdam, Enchantment of the Seas was cut in two and a 22-metre section inserted in the middle. The ship returned to service on 7 July 2005, with 151 more staterooms.

The before and after figures are documented: 74,000 gross tons and 279.20 metres before the operation, 82,910 gross tons and 301.36 metres after. No other Royal Caribbean ship has undergone that transformation.

What that changes when you step aboard

A lengthened ship does not read like a ship designed in one piece. The added section holds spaces newer than the rest of the hull, and circulation aboard follows a seam logic rather than a whole-ship logic.

For a guest that is mostly an advantage: Enchantment offers 22 metres more than an original Vision-class ship, without its population density. Vision of the Seas still measures 279 metres for a maximum capacity of 2,416 guests.
