A detour few ships this size take
Scenic Pearl is among the fleet's ships whose itineraries work up the Moselle.
It is not the best-known river on the network, and that is precisely what makes
it interesting.
The Moselle winds between Koblenz and Trier in tight loops, between slopes so
steep the vines are worked by hand. The villages are small, the quays short, and
you meet far fewer ships than on the Rhine on the same date. A traveller who has
already done the Rhine finds there what they were looking for without being able
to name it.
The hull
Entering service in 2011 from the Den Breejen yard, it carries 167 guests in 85
suites over 135 metres. It belongs to the first generation of the series, with
Scenic Ruby, which means fourteen categories rather than sixteen.
Our count on 26 August 2026 found 135 departure dates, a strong majority built
around the Basel-Amsterdam axis, with the Moselle appearing on some itineraries
rather than all.
What to know before choosing the Moselle
The calls are close together and the sailing days short. The ship moves slowly
through the loops, which puts the landscape at window height for hours. That is a
rhythm, and it does not suit everyone: anyone wanting a town a day and a castle
an afternoon will be better served on the Danube.
The other ships in the fleet
Scenic Ruby is its contemporary. Scenic Crystal, Scenic Opal and Scenic Jasper belong to the following generation, with
two more suite categories.
The line's all-inclusive
It covers life aboard and the outings: gratuities, meals, standard wines and
spirits at table, Wi-Fi, a butler in every suite, Freechoice excursions with a
choice at each port, Enrich cultural events and Sundowner receptions. On the
European ships, electric bicycles are available during port calls.
It does not cover fine vintages outside the standard selection, spa
treatments, or gratuities left outside the organised route.
Air travel escapes that list because it varies with the package chosen. Some
arrangements include it, others do not, and this changes with the market and the
selling period. Have it confirmed in writing before booking rather than assuming
it one way or the other.
The everyday aboard
Adult clientele, with no youth programme and no childcare, and a practical
threshold around twelve years that the line applies with some judgement. This is
not a cruise built to occupy children, and it is better known before booking
than discovered aboard.
A lift links the main decks. The sun deck is reached by stair, which matters
for a traveller with reduced mobility since that is where the landscape is best
seen. Fitted suites sit near reception; their number is checked on the deck
plan.
Booking here rather than elsewhere
Voyages AquaTerra is licensed by Quebec's Office de la protection du
consommateur. Money paid goes through a trust account and the Compensation Fund
for Customers of Travel Agents applies in the situations the law provides. That
framework does not follow a booking made elsewhere.
Allow a connection, often two on distant itineraries, and a hotel night before
embarkation. That night is not a luxury: it is the margin that absorbs a delayed
flight.
