The ship that turned cooking into an itinerary
Silver Moon introduced in 2021 a culinary programme built on the food of the
regions it crosses. A kitchen, a bar and a workshop devoted to what is eaten
where the ship stops, with market outings and tastings tied to the day's port.
This is not empty marketing. On an ocean ship, the cooking tends to be the
same from one ocean to the next. Making what is served match where you are
requires a different supply chain, and it shows by the second day.
The hull
Two hundred and thirteen metres, 40,700 gross tons, 596 guests in 298 suites
and 411 crew. About ninety-six per cent of suites have a private veranda, the
Vista categories having a large picture window.
The ship was delivered by the Ancona yard in October 2020, in the middle of
the global cruise shutdown, and commercial service began only in 2021. It
carries an environmental certification from RINA for pollution prevention and
noise control.
Its sisters and the rest
Silver Dawn shares exactly the same hull and capacity. Silver Muse carries 632 since its refit,
thirty-six more. Silver Ray belongs to a newer class. Silver Whisper is an older and smaller classic
ship.
What sits inside the package
This line's all-inclusive covers life aboard: gratuities, wines and spirits,
Wi-Fi in every suite, a butler in each suite category. It is generous and it is
verifiable.
It no longer covers the whole journey. Since 11 September 2025 the fare that
included the door-to-door air ticket no longer exists. Air travel and transfers
are bought separately. A 2024 brochure will tell you the opposite.
For excursions, everything depends on the fare and the type of cruise. On
expeditions, the higher fare includes landings and Zodiac outings. On classic
cruises the formula differs. Have it spelled out.
What to know before booking
No children's programme exists aboard, and it is not an oversight. Under six
months is not accepted. On expedition ships, under-fives do not take part in
Zodiac outings. A minor stays with an adult aged twenty-one or over.
On ownership, Royal Caribbean Group has held the line outright since July
2020, after taking a majority stake in 2018.
Arranging the departure
The ship is the simplest part of the file. The rest, flight, connection,
hotel night and transfer, is built around it, and since September 2025 none of
it comes automatically. Allow margin, particularly in winter.
