Liquefied natural gas, fuel cells, and a deliberately asymmetric hull

Silver Ray runs on liquefied natural gas, with dual-fuel engines coupled to a four-megawatt fuel cell system and batteries. The combination allows the ship to operate without local emissions while alongside. The yard states a reduction of roughly forty per cent in greenhouse gas emissions per double occupancy suite against the previous class.

The second peculiarity is visible to the eye. The hull is not symmetrical: the funnel and machinery casings have been offset to one side, which opens continuous side views along the outer decks. Nobody builds an asymmetric ship on a whim, and it is the kind of choice you notice on your first walk around.

The hull

Two hundred and forty-four metres, 54,700 gross tons, 728 guests and about 544 crew. It is the largest ship in the fleet, and the only one with its sister to offer a veranda in every suite, all thirteen categories.

It was delivered by the Meyer Werft yard in May 2024 and named at Lisbon the following month. It carries the largest pool in the fleet.

Elsewhere in the fleet

Silver Muse and Silver Dawn belong to the previous class, with 632 and 596 guests rather than 728. Silver Spirit is older. Silver Endeavour is an expedition ship, of another nature.

Included, and not included

Included aboard: gratuities, wines and spirits, Wi-Fi in every suite, butler service in every category, dining in all restaurants and suite service at any hour.

Not included since 11 September 2025: air travel. The line withdrew its door-to-door fare that day. Flights and airport transfers are bought separately. It is the point on which older documentation misleads most reliably.

Excursions depend on the fare and the type of cruise: included on expeditions at the higher fare, as a credit or à la carte on classic cruises. Your advisor confirms the formula for your departure.

The rules aboard

This line is not aimed at families: no club, no childcare, no youth programme. Infants under six months are refused, and children under five stay aboard during Zodiac outings on the expedition ships. A minor must stay with an adult aged twenty-one or over, or in an adjoining suite.

Ownership has been simple since July 2020: Royal Caribbean Group holds the entire capital. Any source saying otherwise predates that.

From Montreal

A luxury cruise is built on logistics. Flight, connection, a night on the ground, transfer to the quay. Since 2025 none of that is automatically included in the cruise fare, which makes assembling the file more important than before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, with dual-fuel liquefied natural gas engines coupled to a four-megawatt fuel cell system and batteries. The ship can operate without local emissions while alongside.
Because the funnel and machinery casings have been offset to one side, which opens continuous side views along the outer decks. It is a design choice, not an aesthetic whim.
Seven hundred and twenty-eight guests, with about 544 crew. It is the largest ship in the fleet, ahead of the previous class.
Yes, on this ship and its sister. All thirteen categories offer a private veranda, which is not the case on the fleet's older ships.
In May 2024, by the Meyer Werft yard at Papenburg, Germany. It was named at Lisbon the following month and made its first commercial voyage in June 2024.
Liquefied natural gas propulsion with fuel cells, asymmetric architecture, a veranda in every suite, and greater size: 54,700 gross tons against 40,700.
Yes, as are wines, spirits and Wi-Fi in every suite, along with butler service. Air travel, on the other hand, has not been included since 11 September 2025.
No, not since 11 September 2025. The line withdrew its door-to-door fare on that date. Flights and transfers are bought separately.
Our inventory measured 129 departure dates on 26 August 2026, the widest calendar in the fleet with us after Silver Whisper.
Yes, the largest in the fleet according to the line. On an ocean ship of this size the area given to a pool has to come from somewhere else, which makes it a real design choice.
None. No club, no childcare, no youth activities. Infants under six months are not accepted, and the minimum age rises on the expedition ships.
It depends on the fare and the type of cruise. On expeditions, the higher fare covers landings and Zodiac outings. On classic cruises the formula runs from an excursion credit to one included outing per port, depending on the fare.
Royal Caribbean Group, outright since July 2020, after a majority stake taken in 2018. Third-party listings still naming the founding family are out of date.
Yes, a ship of the same class delivered the previous year. Both share the liquefied natural gas propulsion and the asymmetric architecture.
