Eighty per cent of the suites, not a hundred

Here is the kind of detail that spoils a trip when you find it out at embarkation. On Silver Shadow, about eighty per cent of suites have a teak veranda. The rest have a large picture window that does not open. Every suite is outside, none is windowless, but not all have a balcony.

A couple who read "all suites are outside" and understood "all suites have a balcony" ends up with a window. The difference takes thirty seconds to settle at booking, and never afterwards.

The hull

One hundred and eighty-six metres, 28,258 gross tons, 392 guests in 194 suites and 302 crew. One crew member for a little more than one and a third guests, markedly more generous than on the fleet's larger ships.

The ship came out of the T. Mariotti yard in Genoa in 2000. It went through a full refit in November 2019: redrawn atrium, an arts café added, an enlarged restaurant, suites entirely reworked.

What this format allows

Three hundred and ninety-two guests is few for an ocean ship. You berth in ports the large hulls avoid, you board quickly, and the line's world cruises are often run on this ship or its sister.

Silver Whisper is that sister. Silver Spirit is larger and newer. Silver Muse and Silver Moon belong to a newer class still.

What sits inside the package

This line's all-inclusive covers life aboard: gratuities, wines and spirits, Wi-Fi in every suite, a butler in each suite category. It is generous and it is verifiable.

It no longer covers the whole journey. Since 11 September 2025 the fare that included the door-to-door air ticket no longer exists. Air travel and transfers are bought separately. A 2024 brochure will tell you the opposite.

For excursions, everything depends on the fare and the type of cruise. On expeditions, the higher fare includes landings and Zodiac outings. On classic cruises the formula differs. Have it spelled out.

What to know before booking

No children's programme exists aboard, and it is not an oversight. Under six months is not accepted. On expedition ships, under-fives do not take part in Zodiac outings. A minor stays with an adult aged twenty-one or over.

On ownership, Royal Caribbean Group has held the line outright since July 2020, after taking a majority stake in 2018.

Arranging the departure

The ship is the simplest part of the file. The rest, flight, connection, hotel night and transfer, is built around it, and since September 2025 none of it comes automatically. Allow margin, particularly in winter.

Voyages AquaTerra holds a Quebec travel agent licence. Your payments move through a trust account and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents protects your file.

Yes, a casino exists aboard and is closed to under-eighteens. The 2019 refit moved it, along with the smoking room, to free up the ship's central spaces.
It accepts children without organising anything for them: no club, no childcare, no youth programme. Under six months is refused. A family with young children will be better served elsewhere, and we say so plainly.
Not always. Expedition landings are covered by the higher fare. On classic cruises the answer depends on the fare: some give a credit to spend, others include one outing per port.
