A 1995 ship turned expedition vessel in 2021

Silver Wind was built in 1995 as a classic cruise ship. In the autumn of 2021 it entered the Gdansk yard and came out as something else: ice-strengthened hull, a new polar-type bulbous bow, ice-detection sonar, cold-resistant windows, a mudroom for landings, and a photo studio where the casino used to be.

A stern extension was also added for stability, a modification its sister did not receive. The ship carries twenty-four Zodiacs and fourteen kayaks, with up to twenty-eight expedition specialists.

That move from one trade to another makes it the most versatile hull in the fleet: it reaches cold water and it berths in conventional ports. A traveller torn between a discovery cruise and a city cruise finds both on the same hull.

The hull

One hundred and fifty-six metres, about 17,400 gross tons, 274 guests in 148 suites and 239 crew. One crew member for barely more than one guest, among the best ratios in the sector.

Its ice notation is 1C, a category that permits cold water without making it an icebreaker. Silver Cloud shares the same hull and the same conversion. Silver Endeavour is rated higher, at PC6.

Elsewhere in the fleet

Silver Origin is an expedition ship of an entirely different nature, dedicated to a single destination. Silver Shadow remained a classic ship, larger and without a strengthened hull.

Included, and not included

Included aboard: gratuities, wines and spirits, Wi-Fi in every suite, butler service in every category, dining in all restaurants and suite service at any hour.

Not included since 11 September 2025: air travel. The line withdrew its door-to-door fare that day. Flights and airport transfers are bought separately. It is the point on which older documentation misleads most reliably.

Excursions depend on the fare and the type of cruise: included on expeditions at the higher fare, as a credit or à la carte on classic cruises. Your advisor confirms the formula for your departure.

The rules aboard

This line is not aimed at families: no club, no childcare, no youth programme. Infants under six months are refused, and children under five stay aboard during Zodiac outings on the expedition ships. A minor must stay with an adult aged twenty-one or over, or in an adjoining suite.

Ownership has been simple since July 2020: Royal Caribbean Group holds the entire capital. Any source saying otherwise predates that.

From Montreal

A luxury cruise is built on logistics. Flight, connection, a night on the ground, transfer to the quay. Since 2025 none of that is automatically included in the cruise fare, which makes assembling the file more important than before.

Voyages AquaTerra operates under a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur. Your payments are held in the trust account required by the Travel Agents Act, and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents covers your file.

Yes, the 2021 conversion put the photo studio where the casino had been. It is a telling choice: on an expedition ship you come home with images rather than chips.
July 2020 for full ownership, 2018 for the majority stake. The buyer is Royal Caribbean Group, which also operates Celebrity Cruises.
