In Setenil de las Bodegas, the houses are carved into the rock. The cliff serves as a roof for whole streets, and terraces set up underneath, in the shade of the stone. The village is ranked among Spain's most beautiful, and it comes early in this trip, between Ronda and embarkation in Seville.
The 7-night cruise on the Guadalquivir, aboard the MS Belle de Cadix, is the thread that holds it together. Cordoba and its Mezquita, Seville and its Alcazar, Cadiz and its medieval quarter, Jerez and its 9th-century Alcazar, a bodega and its tasting of three wines with tapas, an Andalusian hacienda at Isla Minima. All meals are served on board, with water, wine, beer, juice and coffee at meals, and flamenco comes aboard one evening.
After disembarkation the trip changes pace: eight nights in a studio at the Bajondillo residence, in Torremolinos, on the Costa del Sol.
