The Norwegian Luna leaves Miami at 4:00 p.m. The city falls away astern, the wall of Miami Beach hotels first, then the coastline itself, and the ship heads south. Seven nights later it will be back at the same pier with four ports behind it.
The first is Roatán, off Honduras, an island set along the world's second-largest coral reef. Then Harvest Caye, Norwegian's private island in Belize, reserved for the ship's passengers for a day of beach and lagoon. Then Mexico, twice: Costa Maya on the Yucatán coast, and Cozumel, facing Playa del Carmen, where the reefs begin a few hundred metres from the pier.
The trip starts in Miami, though, with a guided tour of the city on arrival day: the Art Deco district, South Beach, Española Way, Bayside and Coconut Grove, then a hotel night before embarkation. A French-speaking escort travels with the group from start to finish.
