Viking Odin: delivered in 2012, still in service, no departures with us

The ship's official page gives 2012 and 190 guests. She is therefore in service. As at 25 August 2026, our own catalogue nonetheless showed no departures on this hull.

A documented case, not a guess

This is the clearest of the three cases of its kind in our catalogue, because the page the line publishes gives the year and the capacity. There is no ambiguity about the ship's existence or its status.

Viking Freya and Viking Idun are in the same position. Three ships from the first Longship series, all absent from our calendar: that pattern is what triggered the check, and the question now sits with our data supplier.

We would rather publish that finding than leave a silent page. A catalogue that says what it does not know is more useful than one that pretends.

    How to proceed

Call an advisor. They can query Viking directly, which is the only way to find out from Quebec: the line's reservations site does not answer Quebec addresses.

If you want an identical hull with dates available, the fleet's fifty or so Longships are interchangeable. Viking Heimdal offers 206 departures on the Rhône, the fullest calendar in our Viking catalogue.

The hull: a Longship, 190 berths

135 metres, 190 guests, 53 crew, 95 staterooms: 25 Standard, 22 French Balcony, 39 Veranda, 7 Veranda Suites and 2 Explorer Suites. One crew member for every 3.58 guests, a ratio belonging to the Longship class — it does not hold across the rest of Viking's river fleet, where it falls to 1.71 on the Nile.

    Óðinn, who pays to know

Odin gives an eye to drink once from Mímir's well. He then hangs nine nights on the tree Yggdrasil, pierced by his own spear, without food or drink, to wrest the runes. Every piece of knowledge he obtains is paid for in advance, and the price is always part of himself.

What happens when you book with us

First a fact you can verify in 30 seconds: from a Quebec address, Viking's reservations site does not answer and sends you to a page inviting you to contact an agent. The agency is not an added intermediary, it is the only route open.

Then a method. A Viking River Cruises advisor confirms in writing the exact fare, what the package covers and what it does not, before any deposit. That is what Quebec consumer protection rules require, and we participate in the compensation fund for travel agency customers.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The ship's official page gives 2012 and 190 guests, which leaves no ambiguity about her status. It is our catalogue that showed no departures as at 25 August 2026.
Because the page the line publishes gives the delivery year and the capacity. There is no doubt about the ship's existence or her service.
Viking Freya and Viking Idun. Three ships from the first Longship series, all absent from our calendar.
The pattern itself: three hulls of the same generation, all at zero departures. One isolated case goes unnoticed; three identical ones call for a question.
With our data supplier. We are trying to establish whether the line is publishing no dates on this series at the moment, or whether the feed supplying us is not passing them on.
Because a catalogue that says what it does not know is more useful than one that pretends. A silent page serves nobody.
By calling an advisor, who can query Viking directly. That is the only way from Quebec, because the line's reservations site does not answer Quebec addresses.
Any of the Longships: the fleet's fifty or so units are interchangeable. Viking Heimdal offers 206 departures on the Rhône, the fullest calendar in our Viking catalogue.
190, in 95 staterooms: 25 Standard, 22 French Balcony, 39 Veranda, 7 Veranda Suites and 2 Explorer Suites.
53, or one for every 3.58 guests. That is the Longship-class ratio; it falls to 1.71 on Viking's Nile ships.
135 metres, the limit imposed by the Rhine, Main and Danube locks. Some fifty Viking hulls measure exactly the same.
2012, according to the official page. She belongs to the first Longship series, like Viking Freya and Viking Idun.
Óðinn is the chief god of the Norse pantheon. He gives an eye to drink once from Mímir's well, then hangs nine nights on the tree Yggdrasil to wrest the runes.
That every piece of knowledge Odin obtains is paid for in advance, and that the price is always part of himself. It is the harshest figure in the Norse corpus on that point.
