History

  • 2026: Année de construction

Norwegian Luna: delivered in March 2026, Miami year-round, then Bermuda

Norwegian Luna is the second Prima Plus: 322 m, 20 decks, a stated 156,300 GT that the registry puts at 154,140. She carries 3,565 guests at double occupancy and roughly 4,200 with every berth filled, served by 1,597 crew. Fincantieri handed her over on 5 March 2026 at Marghera, and she was christened in Miami on 27 March 2026 with street artist ELLE as godmother, having painted the "La Luna" hull mural herself. She is based in Miami through April 2027, then moves to New York for a Bermuda season. No dry dock is announced, which is unremarkable for a 2026 hull.

A six-month-old ship: what you gain and what you give up

Luna has been sailing commercially since late March 2026. A ship this young gives you flawless cabins and bathrooms, current entertainment systems and Starlink fitted from new. In return, the crew is still settling into a few services, and there are not enough guest reviews yet to support a firm verdict. We would rather say so than reprint the launch release. One figure remains contradictory as well: Norwegian's announcement lists 1,809 staterooms while the identical sister hull carries 1,760, and nobody has publicly reconciled the two.

What Luna adds to Aqua, and what she has not fixed

The hull and general layout are those of Norwegian Aqua: the same 322 m, the same Aqua Slidecoaster, the same stretched dining rooms. Luna adds Luna Midway with its open-air carnival games, Moon Climber, Horizon Park and its complimentary lawn games, the Sea of Discovery children's programme and the adults-only LunaTique. The stage lineup changes too, with Elton, HIKO and A Tribute to Eagles. The class limits are untouched: a theatre seating under 700 for 3,565 guests, a tight pool deck, an Indulge Food Hall that jams at peak hours, no go-kart track and a paid adults-only sundeck. As on Aqua, ncl.com contradicts itself on whether the Slidecoaster is included in the fare, so have it confirmed on your booking.

The stretch did not lower density, and that deserves saying

The two 11 m sections inserted into the Prima hull brought roughly 10% more volume, and also 10% more guests. Dividing tonnage by lower berths gives about 44 tons per guest on Luna, against 46 on Prima, 42 on Norwegian Encore and 39 on Norwegian Escape. Those are our calculations from published data, not a Norwegian figure. Put plainly, Luna offers more dining room and more sundeck, not fewer people around the pool. The Haven, aft, keeps its positional advantage over the Breakaway-Plus version, with its open sundeck, its own elevators, restaurant and bar, an infinity pool turned toward the wake, plus the three-bedroom duplexes introduced on Aqua.

Two ships worth comparing with Norwegian Luna

Norwegian Encore for travellers who want go-karts and will accept a denser hull, the most useful comparison for a family with teenagers. Norwegian Aura, due in spring 2027, for anyone who would rather have a larger pool deck and five water slides than a Slidecoaster.

Who Norwegian Luna does not suit

She lets down teenagers who came for Prima's Speedway, which does not exist here. She lets down anyone allergic to surcharges: arcade, virtual reality, the adults-only deck, specialty restaurants and the Great Stirrup Cay waterpark pass are each billed separately. Norwegian Cruise Line Freestyle Cruising also frustrates guests who like fixed seating and a table of their own, since you arrange everything yourself. And a three-night Bahamas run, convenient as it is from Montréal, leaves little time to work through a ship this size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Fincantieri handed her over to Norwegian on 5 March 2026 at the Marghera yard near Venice, and she was christened in Miami on 27 March 2026, with street artist ELLE as godmother after painting the hull mural "La Luna." She has been in commercial service since late March 2026, so under six months at the time of writing. A ship this new gives you flawless cabins and bathrooms, and a crew still settling into a few of the services.
She measures 322 m over 20 decks, with a stated 156,300 GT, 154,140 on the registry and a rounded 156,000 from Fincantieri. She holds 3,565 guests at double occupancy and roughly 4,200 with every pullman berth in use, served by 1,597 crew. That gap of nearly 650 people shows up in summer and during school breaks. Her ratio of about 44 tons per guest is the class's strongest argument against the Breakaway-Plus ships, without being dramatic.
The hull is identical and so is the general layout: same 322 m, same Aqua Slidecoaster, same Indulge Food Hall, same stretched dining rooms. Luna adds Luna Midway, an open-air carnival games alley, Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course, Horizon Park with complimentary lawn games, the adults-only LunaTique at The Improv at Sea, and the Sea of Discovery children's programme. On stage she carries Elton: A Celebration of Elton John, HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder and A Tribute to Eagles, where Aqua runs Revolution and Elements. In short, you choose between them on itinerary and on show, not on the ship.
She has worked out of Miami since late March 2026: three- and four-night Bahamas runs, plus seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyages to Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and Great Stirrup Cay from April to November 2026. From November 2026 she switches to Western Caribbean sailings to Roatán, Cozumel and Harvest Caye, still from Miami, through April 2027. Miami is nonstop from Montréal year-round and the port sits about twenty minutes from the airport, which makes it the easiest embarkation of this group for a Québec client.
On 6 April 2027 she leaves Miami for New York, becoming the newest contemporary-segment ship working that port, with five- to seven-day Bermuda voyages, a first for the Prima class. She comes back to Miami for winter 2027-2028 on seven-day Eastern Caribbean runs that include Great Stirrup Cay on every departure, October 2027 through April 2028. In May 2028 a ten-day repositioning brings her from Miami to New York with maiden calls at Aruba, Curaçao and San Juan, ahead of another Bermuda season on five- and seven-day formats. For a Montrealer the New York season is the convenient one: a 90-minute flight, or the train, and you board in Manhattan.
A midship balcony on a lower deck is the dependable choice, clear of the Aqua Slidecoaster and Luna Midway, both perched high on the ship. A Club Balcony Suite buys space and earlier dining reservations. The inside Studios, priced for one guest and served by a keycard-access Studio Lounge, carry forward the formula Norwegian invented on Norwegian Epic. Luna's Haven sits aft with a private sundeck, an infinity pool facing the wake, a dedicated restaurant, bar and elevators, along with the three-bedroom duplex suites introduced on Aqua.
Included: Hudson's, The Commodore Room, Indulge Food Hall, Surfside Café, Surfside Grill and The Local. Extra-cost specialty venues: Cagney's, Le Bistro, Los Lobos, Palomar, Hasuki, Nama, Onda by Scarpetta and Thai restaurant Sukhothai, for seventeen venues across fifteen cuisines by NCL's count. For activity: the Aqua Slidecoaster, which Norwegian describes inconsistently from one page to the next on whether it is included, the ten-deck dry slide The Drop, Glow Court, Luna Midway, Moon Climber, Horizon Park, Ocean Boulevard and Infinity Beach. On stage: Elton: A Celebration of Elton John, HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder, A Tribute to Eagles and the late-night LunaTique.
She is too new for a firm verdict, but she inherits the class's structural limits, none of which the first four ships fixed: a theatre seating under 700 for 3,565 guests, a tight pool deck and an Indulge Food Hall that jams at peak hours. Prima's go-kart track does not exist here, which regularly lets teens down. The only adults-only sundeck, Vibe Beach Club, costs extra, and Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay, open since 4 September 2026, needs its own pass. No dry dock is scheduled, which is normal for a 2026 hull.
Included: meals at Hudson's, The Commodore Room, Indulge Food Hall, Surfside Café and The Local with no set time or assigned table, drip coffee and tea, theatre shows, the pools, The Drop, Glow Court, Horizon Park and Splash Academy. Extra: the eight specialty restaurants, alcohol, Vibe Beach Club, the Mandara spa thermal suite, arcade and virtual reality games, shore excursions, the Great Tides Waterpark pass, Wi-Fi and daily service charges. Free at Sea adds perks depending on the period without erasing the service charges that ride along with them.
No. A daily per-person service charge posts automatically to your onboard account, higher for suites and for Luna's Haven, and it applies from age three. Further service charges attach to the beverage package and to every specialty dinner, including the dinners the promotion provides. On a three-night Bahamas run as much as on a seven-night Caribbean voyage, have an advisor total it up at 1-866-628-6241 before you compare.
No. The promotional open bar carries a mandatory daily service charge for every guest 21 and over, payable in advance, and each of two adults in a cabin pays separately. Spirits above a set value are still billed. Since nearly all of Luna's itineraries call at Great Stirrup Cay, remember that the base package has not covered the island's bars since March 2026; only the upper tier does.
Yes, over Starlink, fitted from new on this 2026 hull. Minutes generally come with the current promotion, after which you buy a package, with streaming reserved for the top tier. Expect slowdowns on Great Stirrup Cay days and during the Bermuda season, when the ship stays two days alongside at Royal Naval Dockyard. One device at a time unless you add the multi-device option.
Yes, and probably the best of the class for families, thanks to Luna Midway, Moon Climber, Horizon Park and the Sea of Discovery programme, all included. Splash Academy covers ages 3 to 12, Entourage 13 to 17, and Guppies, 6 months to 3 years, is parent-supervised. The three- and four-night Bahamas runs from Miami make an excellent trial format for a first cruise with young children. Note that late-evening childcare, the arcade and the Great Tides Waterpark pass all carry fees.
Yes. One point per night, two per night in a suite or in Luna's Haven, across seven tiers from Bronze to Ambassador. The perks that change anything begin at Gold and Platinum: priority embarkation, a laundry bag, a specialty dinner with wine and, above all, earlier reservations. On a three-night Bahamas sailing, where everyone wants Cagney's on the same evening, that priority genuinely matters.
Not often. She is over 154,000 GT on the registry, her stabilizers are current generation, and her Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries stay in sheltered water. The 2027 and 2028 Bermuda seasons out of New York include two North Atlantic sea days that get livelier in September and October. Take a midship cabin on a lower deck, avoid the stern, and buy tablets or patches before leaving Montréal.
