At anchor. No pier here can take a ship: vessels anchor south of the island, off the Sandy Toes beach club, and tenders land passengers directly on the sand.
East of Paradise Island, about thirty minutes by fast boat from Nassau. It is a long, narrow island, almost deserted, even though the capital is only a handful of kilometres away.
The beach club that receives visitors: hammocks slung between coconut palms, a painted wooden bar, shaded tables serving a Bahamian meal of grilled chicken, peas and rice, salads and fresh bread from the oven. The site takes a few hundred people at most, and that limit changes everything.

Yes. The small colony lives on the shore and comes out to meet swimmers, supervised by the club staff. They are animals: follow the staff's instructions, especially with young children.
Yes. Offshore, a reef shelters tropical fish, starfish and turtles; a guided trip with gear provided leaves each day for the best coral heads. Kayaks, meanwhile, are free to take out.
The Bahamian dollar, at par with the US dollar, and English. Cash is useful for drinks and tips: cards work poorly on an island without reliable network coverage.
Very much so. The south side is shallow, the pigs and peacocks amuse children, and the scale of the site, a few hundred people at most, keeps crowds away. Lockers, showers and toilets round out facilities deliberately kept to the essentials.
Water-resistant sunscreen and a hat: natural shade is limited around midday. Water shoes are recommended on the north side, where some rocks break the surface.
