To the south, Neuwerk lays out a ruler-straight grid around the vast Paradeplatz, with the baroque Christkirche built around 1700.
One of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Europe, held each summer in the former Carlshütte foundry at Büdelsdorf on the opposite bank: industrial halls and a sculpture park. It runs only from June to October.
