At Lakki, the island's main harbour and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. The town starts at the foot of the gangway: the 1930s rationalist setting is a few steps from the ship.
Because it was built between 1933 and 1938 by Italy, which then occupied the Dodecanese and wanted housing for its navy families. Architects Rodolfo Petracco and Armando Bernabiti designed a model town, Portolago, in the rationalist style.
