Continuing south, you'll reach Centre Market, two historic market halls, the oldest of which dates to 1853. Beneath the arches, antique shops, artisans and food counters carry on the neighbourhood's trading tradition. The local institution is Coleman's, a market snack bar where the fried fish sandwich, served simply on waxed paper, has drawn residents for generations. The line and the conversations that spring up while waiting are part of the experience.
