New Flight Routes from Québec and Canada in 2027

Air Canada has announced its network for summer 2027, and seats are already on sale. Two new nonstop services are added from Montréal: Dubrovnik starting 11 May and Basel starting 16 June. The other routes announced for summer 2027 depart from Toronto, Vancouver or Halifax, which means a connection for a traveller starting in Québec.

What the announcement actually changes for Québec

A new destination announced by a Canadian carrier does not mean a nonstop from your own airport. Of the five new transatlantic routes for summer 2027, only two leave Montréal-Trudeau. Oslo, Shannon and Nice depart from Toronto-Pearson. The difference shows up in travel hours, in whether you reclaim your bags midway, and in the risk of a missed connection. Worth stating plainly before the daydreaming starts.

It is also good news told badly. Dubrovnik from Montréal means the Adriatic coast without the six-hour drive from Zagreb. Basel means the Rhine valley, the Black Forest and Alsace through one gateway. Two real openings that deserve better than a line in a list.

New from Montréal

Dubrovnik changes the most. Until now, reaching the Croatian coast from Québec meant Zagreb in season, then a drive or a domestic flight. Landing twenty minutes from the city walls removes a full day of logistics and makes a ten-day trip work where it used to need twelve.

Basel rewards a look at the map. The airport serves three countries at once: German-speaking Switzerland, southern Alsace and Germany's Black Forest. For anyone combining Strasbourg, Colmar and the Rhine towns, it is a more logical entry than Geneva or Zurich.

Three destinations are also announced as served year-round from Montréal: Tenerife, Lima and Guatemala. Continuous service is worth more than a line in a press release, because it lets you choose your season rather than accept it: the Canaries in June, the Peruvian Andes in the heart of the dry season, the Guatemalan highlands outside the winter rush.

New from Toronto

These five are worth the detour if you accept the connection. Shannon opens western Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren rather than Dublin and the east coast. Oslo completes the Scandinavian capitals and serves as the gateway to the fjords. Nice gives direct access to the Riviera and Provence without crossing Paris.

The return of the daytime London flight is the most underrated item on the list. Crossing the Atlantic in daylight rather than sleeping badly upright changes the state you arrive in, and removes the first day usually lost to recovery.

Vancouver and Halifax

Vancouver gains a year-round nonstop to Guangzhou, in the Pearl River delta, starting 4 May 2027, operated by Boeing 787 as flights AC77 and AC76 three times a week, and Brisbane moves to a daily flight through the summer. Halifax regains a London Heathrow service offering Air Canada Signature Class with lie-flat seats, paired with the return of overnight flying.

Which carriers, and which flight numbers

Every route listed above is operated by Air Canada, and the flights are already loaded in the reservation systems. One detail deserves attention: Basel, Oslo and Shannon are flown by the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody with only two cabins, Signature with lie-flat seats and Economy. There is no Premium Economy on those three routes. Dubrovnik on the Boeing 787 and Nice on the Airbus A330-300 keep all three cabins.

These announcements also belong in a wider picture. Air Transat flies nonstop from Montréal to Zagreb in summer and will continue to do so; Dubrovnik adds a gateway to Croatia rather than replacing one. For Switzerland, Air Canada already links Montréal to Geneva year-round and SWISS also operates the route, so Basel joins an existing service. For Ireland, the Montréal-Dublin nonstop remains. On nearly all of these destinations, European connections on Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways and Austrian stay valid options, sometimes better placed geographically.

Should you book right away

Yes, if your dates are settled. Schedules are published and seats are on sale, including through a travel advisor. Airline schedules open roughly 330 days before departure, which is why flights in May and June 2027 can already be booked today.

One caveat remains. A seasonal service can be shifted, extended or withdrawn depending on demand and aircraft availability, so always confirm at the moment of payment. And the rest of the trip deserves parallel attention: accommodation in Dubrovnik in July, rental cars in western Ireland and Norwegian mountain huts often fill faster than airline seats.

A Toronto nonstop or a connection

The question genuinely applies to Oslo, Shannon and Nice. A Montréal-Toronto flight followed by the transatlantic adds a domestic connection, with the delay risk that comes with it, but keeps your checked bag routed through on a single ticket. A European connection often offers more departures and can land you closer to the region you actually want.

The simple rule: on one ticket, a protected connection beats two separate bookings whatever the apparent saving. If the connection fails, that protection is the whole difference.
