The registry lists 155,841 gross tons, 329.4 metres long and 40.6 metres wide, across 19 decks with 15 open to guests. When Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire delivered her in June 2010, she was the largest ship ever built for Norwegian and among the biggest in the world. She has 2,122 cabins and a crew of 1,724. Even now she remains larger than Breakaway and Getaway, the ships that followed her.
Norwegian publishes 4,070 at double occupancy while CruiseMapper counts 4,244, a gap that comes down to how studios and family cabins are tallied. Maximum capacity reaches 5,093 once every upper berth is filled, about a thousand more people than the headline figure. You feel that difference at the elevators, at the Garden Café in the morning and at the slides in the afternoon, especially during school breaks and July. When comparing two ships, compare maximum capacities rather than double occupancy.
She is one of a kind; the planned second hull was cancelled before construction. Her real descendants lie elsewhere: it was on Epic, in 2010, that Norwegian invented the solo studio cabin complex with its private lounge, the large multi-slide water park, the spa quarter with cabins attached and a theatre built around a resident production show. All four became the template for the Breakaway class three years later, on Norwegian Breakaway and then Norwegian Getaway. What Epic never received is the Waterfront promenade, which was born with Breakaway in 2013.
She spends the summer in the western Mediterranean on seven-night loops, alternating from Barcelona and from Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, calling at Nice, Livorno for Florence, Marseille and the Amalfi coast. The Mediterranean season closes with the 18 October departure from Barcelona and the 25 October departure from Civitavecchia. On 1 November 2026 she leaves Barcelona on a 14-night transatlantic to Port Canaveral. From 15 November 2026 she runs seven-night Caribbean loops out of Port Canaveral, calling at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's private island.
The Caribbean season continues from Port Canaveral through the 28 March 2027 departure, with a final loop on 4 April to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. On 18 April 2027 she crosses back to Barcelona on a 14-night transatlantic, then resumes the Mediterranean from May to October, with Barcelona departures from 2 May and Civitavecchia departures from 9 May. On 31 October 2027 she recrosses to Port Canaveral in 12 nights, and the Caribbean season restarts on 12 November. In practical terms that means a nonstop Montréal-Orlando flight of about 3 h 15 plus an hour's drive to Port Canaveral in winter, and a flight to Barcelona or Rome in summer, both served nonstop from Montréal in season.
Here is the detail almost no French-language ship page will tell you: in Epic's standard cabins, the bathroom is not an enclosed room. The sink sits in the cabin itself, while the toilet and the shower occupy two separate curved-wall pods with translucent panels, closed by sliding doors and a curtain. Sound and sight privacy are minimal, and many guests dislike the arrangement, particularly two people who are not on intimate terms. It was never repeated on any other ship, no refit has corrected it, and it does not apply to the 75 Haven suites on decks 16 and 17, whose bathrooms are conventional.
It is the best in the fleet for that, and this is where the whole idea started. Epic introduced the purpose-built solo studio cabin in 2010 and carries 128 of them, the largest count in the fleet, grouped on decks 11 and 12 in a keycard-controlled complex. Residents get the Studio Lounge, a private room with a bar, a self-serve coffee station and screens, an industry first at the time. A studio runs about 9 square metres, so compact, but it is priced for one occupant rather than carrying a single supplement.
Included: Taste and The Manhattan Room as dining rooms, the Garden Café, O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar & Grill with its bowling lanes, and Shanghai's Noodle Bar. Extra-cost venues are Cagney's, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki, Wasabi and Shanghai's restaurant. Bars run from the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar to Maltings Beer & Whiskey Bar, Shaker's Martini & Champagne Bar, The Cavern Club, Bliss Ultra Lounge and the duelling pianos of Howl at the Moon. For attractions there is the Epic Plunge bowl slide, the Aqua Park, the climbing wall, the adults-only Vibe Beach Club since May 2025, Spice H2O aft, and Burn the Floor at the Epic Theater.
The split curved-wall bathroom tops the complaint list, followed closely by the wave-shaped curved walls that make cabins feel smaller and complicate storage. The ship has no exterior promenade wrapping the hull, unlike Breakaway and Getaway, which costs you the after-dinner stroll. With more than five thousand people aboard at peak, the Garden Café congests and lines build at the slides. The April-May 2025 dry dock added a hot tub on deck 18, turned Posh into the Vibe Beach Club, rebuilt the kids' water area and created eight cabins, while leaving the bathroom layout exactly as it was.
Meals at Taste, The Manhattan Room, the Garden Café, O'Sheehan's and Shanghai's Noodle Bar are included with no set time or assigned table, along with drip coffee, tea, shows at the Epic Theater, the Aqua Park, the Epic Plunge, the climbing wall and the Pulse fitness centre. Extra charges apply to specialty restaurants, alcohol, Starbucks, the Mandara thermal suite, the arcade, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and the daily service charges. At Great Stirrup Cay, note that the new Great Tides waterpark, opened on 4 September 2026 with nineteen slides, requires a separately purchased day pass. They are not. A daily per-person service charge is posted automatically to your onboard account, at a higher rate for suites and for the 75 Haven suites. It applies from age three and can be settled before departure. Separate service charges apply to every drink at Maltings or the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar, every meal at Cagney's or Teppanyaki and every treatment at the Mandara spa.
The open bar comes with the Free at Sea promotion, but it triggers a mandatory daily service charge for every guest aged 21 and over on the booking. Two adults sharing a cabin each pay their own, including on a 14-night transatlantic between Barcelona and Port Canaveral. Premium pours above a set value, bottles of wine and the minibar stay separately billed. The upper tier package also covers specialty coffees served in the restaurants, which matters on a ship where Starbucks is otherwise a charge.
Yes, by satellite, with Starlink now rolled out across the fleet. A limited allotment of minutes usually comes with the current promotion; beyond that you buy a package, and only the top tier supports streaming. Expect slowdowns alongside in Civitavecchia and Barcelona, where thousands of devices compete at once, and off the Bahamas in the early evening. One device at a time unless you add the multi-device option.
Yes, from school age onward. Splash Academy covers ages 3 to 12, Entourage ages 13 to 17, and Guppies offers parent-supervised play for 6 months to 3 years. The kids' water area was rebuilt in the 2025 dry dock, and the Epic Plunge remains one of the few bowl slides in the fleet. Note that the arcade carries a charge and evening childcare costs extra, and that a ship holding more than five thousand people at peak asks patience of the youngest guests.
Not often. At 155,841 gross tons, with modern stabilisers and mostly Mediterranean and Caribbean itineraries, Epic moves very little. The two annual transatlantics, on 1 November 2026 to Port Canaveral and 18 April 2027 to Barcelona, are the exception, with several North Atlantic days in storm season. If you are sensitive, take a midship cabin on a lower deck and pick up tablets or patches before you leave home.
