She is the second hull of the Breakaway class and the last Norwegian ship designed around short Bahamas runs.
Norwegian publishes 3,903 at double occupancy, CruiseMapper counts 3,963, and maximum capacity climbs to 4,819 with every upper berth in use. On three- and four-night Bahamas sailings the gap is especially pronounced, because those departures draw families and groups who fill cabins to four. The same ship can feel relaxed in October and completely packed over Labour Day weekend. It is maximum capacity, not double occupancy, that you should compare between two ships.
Two things. First the atmosphere: Getaway was drawn for Miami, with the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, a Tropicana Room that reads like a Latin dance hall, and a far brighter palette than her older sister. Second, and this matters more at the point of booking, she did not receive the March 2025 refit that Breakaway got: she still has Ocean Blue and Moderno Churrascaria, and she has no Silver Screen Bistro, no Horizon Park and no Stadium. In exchange she keeps the Illusionarium, a steampunk dinner theatre devoted to magic that no other ship in the fleet has.
She is based in Miami through the autumn on short three- and four-night Bahamas loops to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's private island; the last departures of that season fall on 16 and 23 October 2026. She then moves down to Port Canaveral from 28 October 2026, offering four-, five-, seven-, eight- and nine-night runs to the Bahamas and Caribbean, with Cozumel, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and Grand Cayman depending on the sailing. She holds a particular place in the recent history of Great Stirrup Cay: she was the first ship to berth at the island's new pier, on 28 December 2025, ending decades of tender-only access. Since 4 September 2026 the island also offers the Great Tides waterpark and its nineteen slides, entered with a separately purchased day pass.
She returns to Miami on 10 April 2027 for a long season of three- and four-night Bahamas cruises running to 29 October. On 7 November 2027 she changes register entirely, settling in New Orleans for seven-night loops to Cozumel, Roatán and Harvest Caye through spring 2028. That move rewrites the airfare: Montréal to Miami is nonstop in about 3 h 30, while New Orleans has no nonstop service from Montréal and requires a connection through Toronto or an American hub, roughly 4 h 30 in total. If you are aiming at the New Orleans season, book the flight early, because Saturday morning connections are thin.
A midship balcony on decks 9 through 11 gives the best value, and the 72 spa cabins on deck 14, including 36 balconies and 20 mini-suites, buy thermal suite access without going to The Haven. The 42 Haven suites occupy decks 15 and 16 and sell far ahead. A solo traveller has 59 studios forward on decks 10 and 11 with the Studio Lounge alongside, a format born on Norwegian Epic in 2010. On three-night sailings, avoid cabins near Spice H2O aft on deck 15, where the music runs late.
The Waterfront promenade, roughly four hundred metres on deck 8, holds Ocean Blue, Moderno Churrascaria, La Cucina, the Sugarcane Mojito Bar and Syd Norman's Pour House. Included meals are served in the Tropicana Room, Savor, Taste, the Garden Café and at O'Sheehan's, open late with its bowling lanes. Extra-cost venues add Cagney's, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki and the Illusionarium. Three- and four-night sailings draw a party crowd and a great many first-time cruisers, which makes for loud pool decks and chaotic embarkation, since the ship turns around twice a week. Getaway is also the only one of the five ships on this page not to have been modernised recently: her last real refit was in Brest in 2019, and she lacks everything Breakaway gained in March 2025. Standard cabins are small, the buffet congests at close to 4,800 people at peak, and The Haven holds only 42 suites. Note too that Norwegian cancelled five autumn 2026 Port Canaveral departures in a redeployment announced in September 2025, a sign this programme can still shift.

They are not. Norwegian posts a daily per-person service charge to your onboard account, at a higher rate for suites and for The Haven. It applies from age three and can be settled before departure. Separate service charges apply to every drink at the Sugarcane Mojito Bar or the Ice Bar, every meal at Ocean Blue or Moderno, and every treatment at the Mandara spa. On a three-night cruise those charges make up a proportionally more visible share of the onboard account than they do across a full week.
The open bar comes with the Free at Sea promotion, but it carries a mandatory daily service charge for every guest aged 21 and over on the booking. On a three-night Bahamas run the arithmetic is quick and worth doing before you say yes. Premium pours above a set value, bottles of wine and the minibar remain separately billed. The upper tier adds specialty coffees served in the restaurants, which matters since the onboard Starbucks is otherwise a charge.
