Gem was the first ship refitted under the Norwegian Edge programme, in October and November 2015, alongside Norwegian Epic. That refit added O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill on Deck 8, moved Moderno Churrascaria to Deck 13, replaced the Star Bar with the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, and removed the bowling lanes from Bliss Ultra Lounge, making her the only one of the four to lose that feature. Her dining rooms are Grand Pacific on Deck 7 and Magenta on Deck 6, and she keeps Orchid Garden, an included Asian venue on Deck 7 her sisters do not carry in that form. Her 24 April to 11 May 2026 Marseille drydock brought the Deck 14 Vibe Beach Club, a rebuilt hot tub and a thalassotherapy pool in the spa.
Gem left drydock in Marseille on 11 May 2026 and runs the full summer in the Mediterranean from three homeports, Barcelona, Civitavecchia for Rome and Ravenna for Venice, on 7-night itineraries covering Greece, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and France. Rome and Ravenna departures continue to 18 and 25 October 2026. On 1 November 2026 she leaves Rome on a 15-night transatlantic to Tampa. She then spends winter 2026-2027 in Tampa on 4- to 11-night cruises to the Bahamas, Cozumel, Roatán, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curaçao and New Orleans, a deployment that came out of a homeport swap with Norwegian Dawn, sent to Jacksonville.
Gem returns to the Mediterranean for summer 2027 with weekly departures from Ravenna and Athens between May and October, followed by transatlantic and Panama Canal sailings in the autumn from Barcelona and Miami. In April 2028 she takes over Philadelphia year-round with 7-night Bermuda voyages calling at Norfolk and overnighting at Royal Naval Dockyard. The Tampa winter is easy to reach, with a daily Air Canada nonstop from Montréal of about three hours forty. Summer 2027 asks more of you. Athens has nonstop service on Air Canada and Air Transat, while Ravenna has no airport of its own and is reached through Venice, served nonstop by Air Canada three times a week, or through Bologna with a connection, then one to two hours by road to the Porto Corsini terminal.
In the Mediterranean, where you go ashore almost daily, oceanview cabins on Decks 4 and 5 at around 15 square metres give the best value and spare you paying for a balcony you barely use. On the Tampa itineraries with sea days, a midship balcony on Decks 9 and 10 genuinely changes the day. Club Balcony Suites on Deck 11 add the sofa and the storage. Among suites, The Haven runs from the roughly 41-square-metre Courtyard Penthouse to the 216-square-metre 3-Bedroom Garden Villa on Deck 14 with its 96-square-metre terrace.
Included dining rooms are Grand Pacific on Deck 7 and Magenta on Deck 6, with the Garden Café and Great Outdoors on Deck 12, Topsiders by the pools, round-the-clock O'Sheehan's on Deck 8 and the included Asian venue Orchid Garden on Deck 7. Cover-charge venues are Le Bistro on Deck 6, Teppanyaki on Deck 7, La Cucina on Deck 12, and Moderno Churrascaria and Cagney's on Deck 13. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar sits on Deck 8, Bliss Ultra Lounge on Deck 7, and Spinnaker Lounge serves as the panoramic bar, with the two-level Stardust Theater for shows. Deck 12 holds three pools and seven hot tubs, and since May 2026 Deck 14 carries the adults-only Vibe Beach Club.
Losing the bowling lanes in 2015 remains the number one complaint from repeat guests, all the more since Norwegian Pearl kept hers. She has no Waterfront promenade, no modern slide complex, no go-karts and no ropes course, and her roughly 13-square-metre inside cabins feel tight to anyone stepping off a Norwegian Prima. The Haven is a Deck 14 courtyard with a small pool, a hot tub, a compact gym and a sundeck, with no Haven restaurant and no Haven lounge, so suite guests take breakfast at Moderno and lunch at Cagney's. The Garden Café buffet jams at peak hours and the theatre needs an early arrival for a decent seat.
The fare covers the cabin, meals at Grand Pacific, Magenta, the Garden Café, Orchid Garden, O'Sheehan's and Topsiders, Stardust Theater shows, the pools and the kids' clubs. Free at Sea adds, depending on the booking, a beverage package for adults in the cabin, cover-charge dining meals, a Wi-Fi allowance and a credit applied to shore excursions. Excluded are daily service charges, Le Bistro, Cagney's, Moderno, La Cucina, Teppanyaki, the spa, the Vibe Beach Club pass, shore excursions in Kotor or Roatán, and port parking. The Montréal-Tampa or Montréal-Athens flight is booked separately.
A daily service charge per person posts automatically to the onboard account, at a reduced rate for guests under 21, and covers cabin service and the included dining rooms. Beverage and dining packages carry their own gratuity charge, billed separately. On an 11-night Tampa sailing to the Southern Caribbean those charges run for eleven days and belong in the budget from the moment you book. Free at Sea Plus, when offered, includes prepaid service charges.
The package covers drinks by the glass at the Deck 8 Sugarcane Mojito Bar, Bliss Ultra Lounge, Spinnaker Lounge and the Deck 12 pool bars, for every guest 21 and over in the cabin. It excludes full bottles, certain premium labels and drinks bought ashore. Since 1 March 2026 the standard package no longer applies at the bars on Great Stirrup Cay, which affects private-island calls on the Bahamas runs from Tampa. In the Mediterranean, with a port call every day in Split, Kotor or Corfu, onboard consumption drops and the case becomes much less obvious.
Gem runs Starlink, and the base Free at Sea inclusion is a minute allowance rather than open access, with the upgraded option swapping the counter for continuous streaming-capable service. Coverage holds up well in the Adriatic and the Aegean and is patchier in inside cabins on Decks 4 and 5. On the 15-night November 2026 transatlantic from Rome to Tampa, throughput varies mid-ocean even with Starlink. A prepaid European SIM costs less than Canadian roaming if you need to stay reachable in port.
Splash Academy for ages 3 to 12, Entourage for teens and the arcade all sit on Deck 12 beside the three pools. Family inside and oceanview cabins sleep four, and the 2-Bedroom Family Villas handle groups of five or six. The 2026-2027 Tampa winter, with its 4- and 5-night Bahamas runs, is the best format for a first family cruise out of Québec during March break. With bowling gone since 2015, teen entertainment rests on the arcade, Entourage and the sports deck, with no aqua park.
The seven tiers run Bronze to Ambassador with thresholds at 20, 45, 75, 150, 350 and 700 points, with tangible benefits starting at Silver and again at Platinum. On Gem the members' reception is held at Spinnaker Lounge, and priority boarding matters in Tampa, where the terminal is compact and Sunday departures overlap. The 15-night transatlantic of 1 November 2026 from Rome to Tampa is the fastest point-builder on her schedule. Points accrue per cruise night, with a bonus tied to the cabin category booked.
The summer Mediterranean is usually calm, but the Adriatic gets up quickly when the bora blows in autumn and the Aegean takes the meltemi in July and August. The November 2026 transatlantic to Tampa includes several open-ocean days where the Atlantic swell makes itself known. Book midship on Decks 8 to 10, avoid the forward end of Deck 11, and keep a horizon in sight from the Great Outdoors on Deck 12. The stabilisers do their job, but a 93,530-ton ship moves more than a modern 150,000-ton hull.
