Norwegian Jewel measures 93,502 gross tons, 294.1 metres long and 32.2 metres wide, with a draught of 8.6 metres. She carries 15 decks and roughly 1,190 cabins, 540 of them with balconies. Meyer Werft delivered her in Papenburg in 2005, making her the first of the four Jewel-class sisters. For scale, she is a little over half the tonnage of Norwegian Prima and about a third of an Icon of the Seas.
The lower figure is double occupancy, two people per cabin, and that is what NCL uses to plan dining rooms and show times. The higher figure counts every berth, including pullman bunks and sofa beds in family cabins. On a July Bermuda sailing out of Philadelphia, Jewel often runs close to full berths, and the Garden Café line at 8 a.m. shows it. Always ask for the double-occupancy number when comparing how crowded two ships feel.
Jewel is the only one of the four with the Tsar's Palace dining room, styled after the palaces of St. Petersburg, and with the pan-Asian Chin Chin restaurant on Deck 7. Her October 2018 Norwegian Edge refit in Singapore brought two venues her sisters lacked at the time, the retro Pit Stop bar and Bliss Ultra Lounge, plus two extra Deluxe Owner's Suites in The Haven. The same yard period added 19 oceanview cabins by removing the library, card room, photo studio and a meeting space on Decks 6 and 12. Her Marseille drydock in autumn 2025 gave her the Deck 14 Vibe Beach Club ahead of Jade and Gem.
Jewel spent the 2025-2026 winter in Miami on Bahamas, Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries, wrapping up on 16 April 2026. She then opened Philadelphia as a homeport on 16 April 2026 at the SouthPort Marine Terminal Complex, NCL's first season there in fifteen years. Through 27 August she runs 7- and 9-day Bermuda voyages with an overnight at Royal Naval Dockyard, followed by 10- and 11-day Canada and New England sailings until 17 October 2026. Those autumn departures alternate between Philadelphia and Québec City, calling at Saguenay, Charlottetown, Halifax, Bar Harbor and Boston.
After a 2026-2027 Caribbean winter from Miami, Jewel crosses the Atlantic on 11 May 2027 to Southampton, then runs a full Baltic summer between Copenhagen and Helsinki, her first complete European season in more than a decade. The 7- and 9-day itineraries add maiden calls at Klaipėda, Riga and Gdynia. The flight picture changes entirely. Philadelphia is a nonstop hop of just over two hours from Montréal on American Airlines or Air Canada, while Copenhagen takes roughly seven hours on Air Canada's seasonal nonstop, and Helsinki has no nonstop from Montréal at all, forcing a connection through Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Toronto.
For a first sailing, category BA or BF Balcony, about 18 square metres including the balcony, is the sweet spot on this hull, and midship Decks 9 and 10 ride the Bermuda crossing best. Club Balcony Suites MA and MB add a real sofa and a larger bathroom without stepping up to a full suite. Solo Inside IT, Solo Oceanview OT and Solo Balcony BT categories exist here, but they are standard cabins allocated to single travellers, with none of the dedicated Studio complex or Studio Lounge found on newer ships. Skip the forward cabins on Deck 8 for the 2027 Baltic itineraries, where the anchor chain wakes you at dawn.
The two included dining rooms are Tsar's Palace and Azura on Deck 6, backed by the Garden Café and Great Outdoors on Deck 12, round-the-clock O'Sheehan's on Deck 8 and Topsiders by the pools. Cover-charge venues include Cagney's and Moderno Churrascaria on Deck 13, Le Bistro on Deck 6, La Cucina on Deck 12, plus Chin Chin, Teppanyaki and the sushi counter on Deck 7. Evenings run through Spinnaker Lounge, Bliss Ultra Lounge, the retro Pit Stop and the 1,030-seat Stardust Theatre, with Carlo's Bake Shop folded into the atrium Java Café. The adults-only Vibe Beach Club on Deck 14, added in 2025 and sold by limited pass, is worth booking the moment you board.
The hull dates from 2005 and it shows where it matters. There is no Waterfront promenade like the Breakaway and Prima ships, no modern waterslide complex, no go-karts and no ropes course. Inside cabins sit around 13 square metres, with the original cylindrical shower pods, noticeably tighter than anything on Norwegian Aqua. The Haven on Deck 14 amounts to a courtyard with a small pool, a hot tub, a compact gym and a sundeck, without a Haven restaurant or Haven lounge, which catches out guests who book a suite expecting the newer-ship product. The Stardust Theatre is small for the ship's size, so arrive a good twenty minutes early for a decent seat.
Accommodation, meals in Tsar's Palace and Azura, the Garden Café, O'Sheehan's and Topsiders, Stardust Theatre shows, the pools, the fitness centre and the kids' clubs are all included. NCL's Free at Sea programme adds, depending on the booking, a beverage package for adults in the cabin, a set number of cover-charge dining meals, a Wi-Fi allowance and a credit applied to shore excursions. Not included are daily service charges, Cagney's, Le Bistro, Chin Chin, La Cucina, Moderno and Teppanyaki, the spa, shore excursions, drinks outside the package and the Vibe Beach Club pass. The Montréal-Philadelphia or Montréal-Copenhagen flight is never part of the cruise fare and must be booked separately.
NCL charges a daily service charge per person, posted automatically to the onboard account, at a reduced rate for guests under 21. It covers cabin stewards, the included dining rooms and general service, sits on top of the cruise fare, and is not realistically optional, though it can be raised at guest services. Beverage packages and cover-charge dining packages carry their own separate gratuity charge. When Free at Sea Plus is offered, prepaid service charges are folded in, which simplifies the final statement on something like the fifteen-night 2027 transatlantic to Southampton.
The package covers drinks poured by the glass across the ship's bars, including Spinnaker Lounge, Bliss Ultra Lounge, the Pit Stop, Maltings and the Deck 12 pool bars, and applies to every guest 21 and over in the cabin. It excludes full bottles, carafes to go, certain premium labels and anything bought ashore. Since 1 March 2026 the standard package no longer applies at the bars on Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island, which directly affects Jewel's Bahamas runs out of Miami. On a 2027 Baltic itinerary with long port days in Tallinn, Riga and Stockholm, the arithmetic looks nothing like a Caribbean week with three sea days.
The ship runs Starlink, a real step up from previous years, but the base Free at Sea inclusion is a capped allowance of minutes rather than open access. The upgraded option swaps the minute cap for continuous access suitable for streaming. Signal stays patchy in inside cabins on Decks 4 and 5 and at the end of long corridors, while the atrium Java Café and Deck 12 hold steady. Baltic coverage in 2027 is generally good, but bring a local SIM if you genuinely need to work.
Splash Academy takes ages 3 to 12 and Entourage handles teenagers, both on Deck 12 near the main pool. Family cabins in categories I4, O4 and B4 sleep four, while the 2-Bedroom Deluxe Family Suite S4 handles five or six. There is no aqua park and no go-kart track, so teens used to the Prima class will find the pool deck quiet, whereas the September 2026 Canada and New England sailings from Québec City suit multigenerational groups best. Swim diapers are not permitted in the pools, a strict NCL rule that surprises many parents.
Latitudes Rewards runs seven tiers from Bronze to Ambassador, with thresholds at 20, 45, 75, 150, 350 and 700 points. The useful benefits start at Silver and Gold with priority boarding and a members' reception, then broaden at Platinum with a cover-charge dinner and laundry service. On Jewel the recognition shows up at the Spinnaker Lounge reception and in the boarding queues at Philadelphia, where the SouthPort terminal is still new and the priority line genuinely helps. A fifteen-night crossing like May 2027 banks a large block of points at once, a useful shortcut toward Platinum.
Jewel has stabilisers and her 294-metre length handles short chop well, but she is still a 93,500-ton ship and moves more than a Norwegian Aqua in a built-up sea. Bermuda crossings in May and September out of Philadelphia can get lively off Cape Hatteras, and the May 2027 transatlantic to Southampton includes several open-ocean days. Book midship on Decks 8 to 10 rather than forward on Deck 11, and keep a horizon in view from the Great Outdoors. The onboard shop sells bands and tablets, but buying an antiemetic at a Québec pharmacy before you leave saves a lot of bother.
