Very little, to be honest: almost everything dates from the 20th century. The city was founded in 1938 to house the plant's workers. It does take its name, though, from a Renaissance castle set in greenery, Schloss Wolfsburg, now the municipal museum, half an hour's walk away.
It changes register: on this artificial waterway the surface stays flat, the banks run straight, and locks replace meanders. The landscaped banks suit an early morning walk before breakfast.
