Almost always at anchor: ships moor offshore and tender passengers by Zodiac or lifeboat to the small fishing harbour. From there the whole town centre is walkable.
Yes, entirely. Coloured wooden houses, grocery stores and craft workshops fit into a handful of streets, and the icefjord begins about 2 km from the centre.
The Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, one of the fastest in the northern hemisphere, discharges icebergs that pile up against an underwater sill in a frozen chaos of towers, arches and blue walls.
On foot. Walk to the visitor centre about 2 km from the harbour, then take the Sermermiut boardwalk: roughly 30 minutes round trip on the yellow trail, with no real difficulty.
The Sermermiut boardwalk and the fjord first, then a loop through town. Add the Knud Rasmussen museum if time allows. A boat trip among the icebergs takes half the day on its own, so you have to choose.
