Strongly recommended if you're travelling from Quebec. A day or two ahead absorbs a flight delay and lets you see New York: Times Square, Central Park, the High Line, the Staten Island Ferry or the major museums.
Hotels near the terminal offer packages with parking and a shuttle to the pier, popular with families arriving by car. Jersey City and Newark are often cheaper than Manhattan while staying close.
Newark Airport, about twenty minutes from the terminal. It's the logical choice for passengers coming from Montreal.
Liberty State Park, whose lawns face the skyline, and the Liberty Science Center, a family favourite. The Jersey City and Hoboken waterfronts offer the best Manhattan views, especially at sunset.
It's the highlight. The ship swings into the bay, passes the Statue of Liberty close enough to make out the folds of her robe, salutes Ellis Island, then clears the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in the evening light.
