No. Carnival Tropicale is an entirely new build, the fifth Excel-class ship, under construction at Meyer Werft in Papenburg as hull S725. Carnival announced it on 24 April 2026 as the future Galveston ship, with delivery set for 2028. The idea that it came from the Australian fleet circulates online but has no basis in fact.
The name honours MS Tropicale of 1981, the first ship built specifically for Carnival, delivered by the Danish yard Aalborg Værft. She introduced the winged funnel that became the line's trademark. There is an odd twist: that original ship later sailed Australian waters as Pacific Star for P&O, then as Ocean Dream, before scrapping in January 2021.
Carnival Tropicale will use the Excel platform: roughly 346 metres long, 42 metres wide, and near 183,900 gross tons according to industry estimates. Carnival cites more than 6,000 guests at maximum capacity, while double occupancy should land around 5,200. Expect roughly 1,735 crew serving about 2,626 staterooms across 18 decks, 11 of them with cabins.
Delivery is targeted for 2028, with Galveston, Texas, as year-round home port beginning with the inaugural 2028/29 season. Carnival Tropicale will join Carnival Jubilee there, giving Galveston two of the line's newest ships.
