Carnival Venezia: a final New York season in 2026, then Miami from May 2027

Carnival Venezia is a former Costa ship now sailing under the Carnival flag: 135,225 gross tons, 323.6 metres by 37.2, fourteen decks of which twelve carry cabins, and 2,116 cabins. She carries 4,208 guests at double occupancy, 5,260 with every berth in use, and 1,278 crew. She was built by Fincantieri at Monfalcone, Italy, and delivered on 28 February 2019 as Costa Venezia, before being rebuilt at the Navantia yard in Cádiz and joining the Carnival fleet on 22 March 2023, with further work in 2024. She is based at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York for the 2026 summer season.

The only Carnival ship Quebecers can reach by car

Manhattan is roughly a six-hour drive from Montréal: no flight, no connection, no weighing your luggage. That is a real and rare advantage. The 2026 season runs from late May to early October in three formats: 4 nights to Canada and Halifax, 5 nights to Bermuda with an overnight alongside at King's Wharf, and 9 nights to the Caribbean. The 4-night Halifax run remains the best trial available to a first-time Québec cruiser who wants to test the formula before committing to a full week.

The relocation calendar, stated plainly

Summer 2026 is the last announced New York season for Carnival Venezia. From October 2026 to May 2027 she moves down to Port Canaveral for 7- to 14-night cruises. From May 2027 she becomes a Miami ship, running 6-day Western Caribbean sailings — Celebration Key, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Grand Turk and Amber Cove — and 8-day voyages to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Good news for anyone hesitating: Carnival has confirmed the Italian concept travels with the ship to Miami. Carnival Firenze takes over the Manhattan terminal in summer 2027.

What the Italian identity actually means on board

It was not bolted on afterwards. The main atrium carries the name Piazza San Marco, two authentic gondolas sit amidships, the frescoes and rococo plasterwork have not moved since the Costa years, and the show lounge is called Teatro Rosso. In the Marco Polo and Canal Grande dining rooms, pasta is not a token gesture. Il Viaggio holds down the upscale Italian table on board, and the Frizzante bar takes care of the aperitivo hour. In fairness, a share of guests feel the theme lives mainly in the décor and thins out across the rest of an experience that stays distinctly American.

Terrazza cabins, found nowhere else in the Carnival fleet

The ship holds 77 Terrazza cabins. They open onto Terrazza Carnevale, a private deck fitted with a pair of hot tubs and a bar that pours for its occupants alone. Some versions, badged cabana, graft on a patio and a hammock. No other Carnival ship offers this, and these cabins sell out early on summer departures. Travelling as a family, look instead for cabins with a separate half-bath, which earn their keep in the morning. Avoid cabins sitting under the pool deck: they are noisy from first light.

A drink-package detail that costs real money out of New York

New York State rules stop the CHEERS! package from starting before the second day on departures out of Manhattan. On a 4-night Halifax run, that is a quarter of the sailing gone from a package you paid for in full. One more thing worth knowing before booking: your Costa cruise history does not carry over into Carnival Rewards, the program that replaced the VIFP Club in 2026, and there is no reciprocity with Princess or Holland America.

What is missing, and who this ship is wrong for

It is wrong for thrill-seekers: no roller coaster, no headline attraction. It is also wrong for families who live around the water, because the main pool is small for the ship's capacity and there is no dedicated children's pool. Her engine room and her cabins belong to the generation that came before LNG. Finally, the North Atlantic out of New York toward Bermuda or Halifax moves more than the winter Caribbean: if you are sensitive to motion, book a midship cabin on a lower deck and favour the coastal itineraries.

Two ways to get what this ship does not offer

If the missing water park is what stops you, patience is required: Carnival Tropicale reaches Galveston in 2028 with the Sunsation Point zone and its six slides, on an LNG-powered hull. If quiet and a serious spa matter more, Carnival Splendor also came out of a Fincantieri yard in the same pre-LNG generation, but carries 3,012 guests and a 2,000-square-metre Cloud 9 Spa, year-round from Sydney.

Frequently Asked Questions

Travellers who want Carnival's energy with an Italian layer, and above all Quebecers who want to board without flying: Manhattan is about a six-hour drive from Montréal. It also suits couples who find the Excel-class mega-ships too big. Thrill-seekers, on the other hand, will be disappointed — there is no roller coaster on this ship.
It is a former Costa ship — Costa Venezia — converted in 2023 under the "Carnival Fun Italian Style" concept. The atrium is called Piazza San Marco, two real gondolas are displayed on board, the frescoes and rococo mouldings are original, the theatre is named Teatro Rosso, and the menus give genuine space to pasta. No other ship in the fleet looks like this.
Mid-sized by Carnival standards: 135,225 gross tons, 14 decks, roughly 4,200 guests at double occupancy and up to 5,260 fully loaded. That is markedly smaller than Mardi Gras. The upside: shorter lines, walkable distances, a more contained atmosphere. The downside: fewer restaurants, fewer bars, and a single main pool that reviewers routinely call too small.
Terrazza cabins are the ship's signature and exist nowhere else at Carnival: 77 cabins with access to Terrazza Carnevale, a private terrace with two hot tubs and its own bar. The cabana versions add a patio with a hammock. Travelling as a family, look for cabins with a separate half-bath. Avoid cabins under the pool deck — noisy from early morning.
Included: the Marco Polo and Canal Grande dining rooms, Pizzeria del Capitano, Tomodoro, Guy's Burger Joint, La Strada Grill and the Lido Marketplace buffet. Extra charge: Il Viaggio, the ship's upscale Italian table, Fahrenheit 555, Bonsai Sushi, Bonsai Teppanyaki and Seafood Shack. For bars: Frizzante for Italian aperitivi, Amari, the Gondola Lounge and the 21-and-over Heroes Tribute Bar.
From Manhattan, New York, late May to early October 2026: 4-night Canada cruises calling at Halifax, 5-night Bermuda sailings with an overnight at King's Wharf, and 9-night Caribbean voyages. From October 2026 to May 2027 it moves to Port Canaveral for 7- to 14-night Caribbean cruises, then relocates to Miami in May 2027.
It was delivered in February 2019 as Costa Venezia, then rebuilt for Carnival at the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, Spain, in March 2023, with further work in 2024. So this is not a new ship, but a 2019 vessel recently reworked. Its machinery and cabins predate the LNG generation that Mardi Gras belongs to.
The main pool, widely considered tiny for the ship's capacity, and the absence of a dedicated kids' pool. Loungers are claimed early on sea days. A share of guests describe the food as inconsistent, and some feel the Italian theme lives more in the décor than in the actual experience. Finally, there is no headline attraction — no coaster, no showpiece ride.
Included: your cabin, meals at Marco Polo and Canal Grande, the buffet, Pizzeria del Capitano, Tomodoro, Guy's Burger Joint, shows at the Teatro Rosso and the kids' clubs. Extra: drinks, Il Viaggio and the other paid restaurants, Wi-Fi, the spa, shore excursions and gratuities. Details vary by sailing — confirm yours at 1-866-628-6241.
Automatically, daily, per person, straight to your onboard account, at a higher rate for suites. On a 4-night sailing to Halifax the total stays modest; on a 9-night Caribbean cruise from New York it becomes significant. Drinks bought at Frizzante or Amari carry their own separate service charge on top of that.
Watch one costly detail: on ships sailing from New York, the CHEERS! package only activates on day two, because of local regulation. On a 4-night Canada cruise that removes a quarter of your trip. The package caps at 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hours, and every guest 21 and over in the cabin has to purchase it.
Yes — the ship runs on Starlink and offers Carnival's three plans: Social, Value and Premium. On coastal runs to Halifax or Bermuda the connection stays steady. On the 9-night Caribbean voyages, budget for Premium if you need to work. Buy the plan before you board; the onboard rate is higher.
Yes: Camp Ocean for ages 2 to 11, Circle "C" for 12 to 14, Club O2 for 15 to 17, plus a WaterWorks aqua park, the SkyCourse ropes course and mini golf. To be straight about the limits: there is no dedicated kids' pool and the main pool is small. The 4-night Canada sailings work well as a first cruise.
Yes, fully. Carnival Rewards succeeded the VIFP Club in 2026, with four tiers — Red, Gold, Platinum and Diamond — earned on dollars spent. Useful note for former Costa cruisers discovering Venezia: your Costa history does not transfer, and the new Carnival program does not offer reciprocity with Princess or Holland America.
More than Mardi Gras, yes. At 135,225 gross tons it is solid, but the North Atlantic out of New York toward Bermuda or Halifax is rougher than the winter Caribbean. If you are sensitive, book a midship cabin on a lower deck, pack medication, and favour the coastal Canada itineraries over the 9-night crossings.
