Yes, completely. From New Orleans, Valor runs 4- and 5-day cruises to Cozumel and Progreso, Mexico. From Mobile, starting May 15, 2027, it shifts to 6- to 8-day cruises to The Bahamas, RelaxAway Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key, plus two 14-day Carnival Journeys sailings to the Caribbean and Panama. It is no longer the same product.
2,980 at double occupancy and 3,806 at absolute maximum. Valor has 1,490 staterooms, including 27 adapted for reduced mobility, and 1,180 crew — thirty more than its three sisters, a small difference you notice in dining-room service. Never treat the 3,806 figure as the ship's normal load.
Yes, but only recently. The WaterWorks park was installed during the major dry dock from May 10 to June 10, 2025, at Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, Spain. Valor was therefore the last of the four ships in this group to get one. The same dry dock added the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, the Cloud 9 Spa, a Camp Ocean LED wall and USB outlets in cabins.
Because that is its original theme. Valor was designed around heroes and major figures of American history, and its public-room names follow that logic. The Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, added on deck 5 in 2025, extends the idea by honouring service members and veterans. For a Québec traveller the effect can feel foreign. It is neither hidden nor subtle.
About five to six hours of sailing down the Mississippi before reaching the Gulf of Mexico. This is a Valor quirk its Florida sisters do not have: you spend the first afternoon and evening gliding between riverbanks with no sea horizon. Many passengers find it beautiful; those expecting open water right away are disappointed.
A regional crowd from the American South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas. Many arrive by car rather than by plane. The 4- and 5-day formats attract multigenerational families and groups of friends, producing a warm and loud atmosphere. The 2027 move to Mobile will reinforce that drive-to profile, since Mobile serves the same population base.
Three things recur. The kids' club location, wedged near the spa and quiet zones, which creates conflicting uses. Food consistency, judged uneven from one service to the next. And the reliability of the Wi-Fi and the Hub app, especially during the Mississippi transit. Everything else — service, cleanliness, activities — has drawn good comments since the 2025 dry dock.

With at least one connection. There is no nonstop flight from Montréal to New Orleans, and certainly none to Mobile after 2027; expect a connection through Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte or Dallas. Plan to arrive the day before. For Mobile departures from 2027, the local airport is small: Pensacola or New Orleans with a road transfer often remain simpler.
Cozumel is a diving island: reefs, snorkelling, beach clubs, plus a busy shopping port town. Progreso is the gateway to the Yucatán; it is where you go ashore for the Maya site of Chichén Itzá, roughly two and a half hours each way by road. Progreso has a long pier and a shallow beach. Neither is a spectacular beach call.

Emergency medical insurance is essential: Québec's public plan reimburses only a tiny fraction of care received in the United States or at sea, and a medical evacuation from the Gulf of Mexico is ruinously expensive. Cancellation insurance is a separate second layer. The FICAV covers neither illness nor care: it addresses services paid for but not delivered.
The two main dining rooms, the buffet, the all-day pizzeria, the deli counter, the salad bar, the grill, Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina are included. Extra-cost venues are the steakhouse, the Seafood Shack, the ice cream bar, specialty coffees and cabin service outside certain hours. Sea-day brunch is included and is worth getting up for.
Yes, but a light one. Evenings are casual except for one or two "elegant nights" depending on length, when men are asked for long trousers and a collared shirt and women for a dress or equivalent.
