At Denarau marina, in the middle of a low island linked to Viti Levu by a bridge. Depending on size, ships anchor offshore and tender passengers in. Shops, restaurants and excursion desks surround the pontoons.
Only partly, and it is fair to say so. The marina is convenient and lively, but it tells a small part of the story: the country's real face begins as soon as you leave it, towards Nadi, the inland valleys or the offshore reefs.
