Ships anchor offshore and tenders land passengers at the Halfmoon Bay wharf, the crescent bay that fronts the village. There is no alongside berth.
New Zealand's third island, far to the south beyond Foveaux Strait. A national park covers 85 percent of it, and Oban, with about four hundred residents, is its only village.
Two honest options: give the day to Ulva Island and the village, or combine Observation Rock, the Rakiura Museum and a boat trip into Paterson Inlet. Trying to do everything would mean rushing in a place that teaches the opposite.
