Viking Ingvi: one hundred and seventy-nine departures, ninety one way, eighty-nine the other
Few calendars in the entire river fleet we sell are this symmetrical. Ninety departures from Budapest to Passau, eighty-nine from Passau to Budapest: a single date between the two directions, measured on 25 August 2026.
In practice that means the question "do we start in Budapest or arrive there?" gets decided on what you want from the trip, not on what is left in inventory. That is rarer than it sounds.
The name, and what it says about the rest
Ingvi is one of the names of Freyr, god of fertility and harvest — the one invoked for the year ahead rather than the battle of the day. Viking names its fifty Longships from the Norse pantheon, and that is roughly the only thing separating one hull from another: they all measure 135 metres, they all carry 190.
The practical consequence deserves saying plainly: choosing "a Longship" means nothing. Choosing the Danube over the Rhône means everything.
The hull: a Longship, 190 berths
She belongs to the Longship series, the most common hull in Viking's river fleet: 135 metres long, 190 guests, 53 crew, 95 staterooms split into 25 Standard, 22 French Balcony, 39 Veranda, 7 Veranda Suites and 2 Explorer Suites.
One crew member for every 3.58 guests is thin compared with an ocean ship. The closeness passengers describe does not come from service density: it comes from there being a hundred and ninety of you, from crossing paths at breakfast, and from faces having names by the third day.
What the Danube gives you to look at
Between Passau and Budapest the river crosses four countries in a week. The Wachau valley, between Melk and Krems, is a World Heritage site and is best watched from the deck rather than from a coach: it is the strongest argument river cruising has against a land tour.

Getting there from Montreal
