Viking Skadi: 151 departures between Budapest and Passau, nearly all on one axis

75 departures from Budapest to Passau, 73 from Passau to Budapest, measured on 25 August 2026. Out of 151 departures in total, 148 therefore sit on those two routes. It is the most concentrated calendar among the ships we sell on the Danube: one axis, two directions, almost nothing else.

A concentrated calendar is not a flaw, it is information. It means availability on that precise route is strong, and that if your week is fixed, your odds of finding it here are good.

Passau, the city of three rivers

The Inn arrives from the Austrian Alps, pale with sediment; the Ilz comes down from the Bavarian forest, dark and peaty; the Danube arrives from the west. The three meet at Passau and, for a few hundred metres, three colours of water run side by side. You can see it from the point at the Dreiflüsseeck.

Passau sits about an hour and a half by road from Munich airport. Viking Vilhjalm and Viking Ingvi work the same axis with 189 and 179 departures. To board closer to Munich, the Regensburg gateway and Viking Var save half an hour on the road.

The hull: a Longship, 190 berths

135 metres, 190 guests, 53 crew, 95 staterooms: 25 Standard, 22 French Balcony, 39 Veranda, 7 Veranda Suites and 2 Explorer Suites. One crew member for every 3.58 guests, a ratio belonging to the Longship class.

Choosing between Skadi, Vilhjalm and Ingvi has no consequence for what you find on board. The only question that matters is the date.

Skadi, winter and the hunt

Skadi is a mountain giantess, a skier and hunter, who demands redress from the Æsir for her father's death and wins the right to marry one of them. She chooses by seeing only the suitors' feet, picks the wrong god, and the marriage fails because she cannot bear the shore and he cannot bear the mountains.

The Danube in December has something of that story in it. Viking schedules Christmas market departures in late November and December: your advisor checks which of them fall on this ship.

Getting there from Montreal

One connection to Munich or Budapest — Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam — for 13 to 15 hours door to door, then an hour and a half by road to Passau.

Booking: what you need to know

Viking's reservations site does not serve Quebec addresses: it redirects to a page stating it is unavailable and suggesting you go through an agent. The check takes 30 seconds and is better done than taken on trust.

On our side, nothing is booked without writing. Our Viking River Cruises advisors send you the exact fare, the inclusions and exclusions item by item, and the applicable conditions. AquaTerra Travels follows Quebec consumer protection rules and participates in the compensation fund for travel agency customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

151, measured on 25 August 2026: 75 from Budapest to Passau and 73 the reverse. So 148 of the 151 departures sit on those two routes.
Because nearly every departure follows the same Budapest-Passau axis. That is useful information: availability on that precise route is strong, which helps when your dates are fixed.
Passau, in Lower Bavaria, about an hour and a half by road from Munich airport. Boarding at Regensburg instead saves roughly half an hour of that transfer.
Passau, where the Inn, the Ilz and the Danube meet. For a few hundred metres three colours of water run side by side, visible from the point at the Dreiflüsseeck.

53, or one for every 3.58 guests. That is the Longship-class ratio and it does not hold across Viking's entire river fleet.
135 metres, the limit of the Danube and Main locks. That is why 50 Viking hulls measure exactly the same.
Viking Vilhjalm with 189 departures and Viking Ingvi with 179, on the same Passau-Budapest axis. The three hulls are identical: only the date matters.
7 to 8 days between Passau and Budapest, across Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.
A flight with one connection to Munich — Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris or Amsterdam — for 13 to 15 hours door to door, then an hour and a half by road.
