Frequently Asked Questions
At anchor in the bay. Tenders drop passengers in the heart of the resort, steps from the Rua das Pedras and the seafront promenade.
Yes, the village is entirely walkable from the landing. For the further beaches, water taxis and local shuttles let you build your own swimming circuit.
The Rua das Pedras and the Orla Bardot in the morning, then a beach in the afternoon: Ossos within walking distance, or Azeda and Azedinha via a short trail. Schooners also run two to three hour trips.
Because in 1964 the French actress settled in what was then just a fishing village three hours from Rio. Sixty years on, the peninsula is one of Brazil's most fashionable resorts, and a bronze shows her seated on her suitcase facing the bay.
The village's signature street: a lane of large irregular stones lined with art galleries, designer boutiques and restaurants. On a port day you stroll it quietly; in the evening it becomes the whole village's meeting place.
More than twenty, each with its own character. Ossos and its sailboats within walking distance, Azeda and Azedinha with clear water, João Fernandes calm and popular with families, Ferradura a sheltered horseshoe, Geribá for surfers.
Ferradura, whose sheltered horseshoe is ideal for family swimming, or João Fernandes with its calm water. Skip Geribá, where the waves draw surfers.
Two to three hours along the coast, with a swim stop over clear water where turtles sometimes appear. Departures are mostly in the morning from Armação beach: book as soon as you land to get a seat under the awning.
Fish moqueca, grilled prawns and an ice-cold caipirinha at the seafront tables. A small-batch ice cream eaten while walking the Orla Bardot makes a good ending.
A hat: shade is scarce on the beaches at midday. Soft shoes too, since Azeda and Azedinha are reached by a short trail.
