There comes a moment in a family when Disney stops being an idea and becomes a date on the calendar. Often a five-year-old forces the issue. Sometimes a grandparent wants to see it once while the little ones still believe. The trip rarely starts with a sale. It starts with a wish, and that is what makes it hard to plan: you want all of it, and you end up staring at six destinations, four seasons and a dozen ways to pay.

Here is how our advisors frame the question when a Quebec family sits down with them.

Where to go: the decision that shapes everything else

Florida is still the reflex answer here. Walt Disney World Resort, near Orlando, holds four theme parks, two water parks and more than two dozen hotels on its own property. The non-stop flight from Montreal-Trudeau runs a little over three and a half hours, short enough to have breakfast at home and dinner at Disney Springs the same day.

California offers something else. Disneyland Resort sits on two neighbouring parks separated by a three-minute walk. It is the park Walt Disney saw in his lifetime, and the scale shows. A family that dreads walking all day will be happier there than in Florida.

Paris changed its face this spring. On 29 March 2026 the second park was renamed Disney Adventure World and opened its World of Frozen, with a thirty-six-metre mountain and Elsa's ice palace at the summit. The appeal for a family from here is double: a time difference that settles in two days, and a week that can spill over into Paris itself.

The cruise is the option parents discover last and wish they had chosen first. Disney Cruise Line runs eight ships in 2026, including the Disney Adventure, which arrived this year and sails out of Singapore. The idea fits in one sentence: children have their clubs, adults have their evenings, and nobody queues under the July sun.

That leaves Aulani, on Oahu in Hawaii, and the parks in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Those are trips for adults who love Disney far more than trips for children.

Your children's age decides faster than you do

Before four, a child remembers the hotel pool, the costumes and the moment something frightened them. Little of the parks themselves will stay. Plenty of families go anyway, and they are right to, as long as they admit they are going for themselves.

From five to nine, everything works. This is the window where a child believes what they see, where the characters are people, and where their height already opens most of the rides. If you can only go once, go during those years.

From ten onward, speed becomes the criterion. Florida answers that better than Paris or California, for the simple reason that there are four parks to work through instead of two.

Teenagers raise a different problem: they want to go, but not glued to you. What works is giving them blocks of independence during the day and meeting again for dinner. They come back with stories, which is exactly what you were after.

When to go, seen from Quebec

Quebec's March break is the best and the worst week at once. Best because nobody misses school. Worst because a good share of the province had the same idea, which shows in the queues and on the bill.

Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, peaking in September. A hurricane rarely closes the parks for more than a day, but it moves flights around, and that is the moment cancellation insurance stops being a luxury.

July and August in Florida mean heavy heat and a thunderstorm around four in the afternoon most days. Families who go learn quickly to do the parks early, return to the hotel through the afternoon, and head back out after dinner.

Quiet windows still exist. Late January stays calm, as does the first half of May and mid-September once school is back. For Paris, aim for spring or autumn.

How many days, and where the money goes

Count seven to ten days for Florida. Below that, you pay for the flight to get three days of parks and come home more tired than you left. Above it, the maths turns in your favour, because the daily ticket price drops as you add days.

The bill splits into four parts: transport, lodging, park tickets and food. The fourth is the one that surprises people. A family of four eating three meals a day on property for a week spends the equivalent of one more plane ticket. A hotel room with a kitchenette and a soft cooler at the park gate change that figure completely.

Staying on property costs more and gives you time back: transfers included, early entry to the parks, an easy return to the room at midday. Staying off property lightens the hotel bill and adds a rental car and daily parking. Do the arithmetic in hours as much as in dollars.

What booking in Quebec changes

Voyages AquaTerra holds licence 702703 from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur. Buying from a Quebec licence holder places you under the Travel Agents' Customers Compensation Fund. Since 1 January 2024 clients no longer pay a contribution to the fund, and the protection remains intact.

On formalities, every member of the family needs a valid passport to fly to the United States, including the eight-month-old. A stay longer than thirty days requires registration with US immigration services, which mainly concerns snowbirds.
