Viva Fortuna Beach by Wyndham

First a name correction, because booking systems still carry the old one: the hotel is now called Viva Fortuna Beach by Wyndham, under the Trademark banner. The form « Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach » is out of date, though both still circulate.

It is Grand Bahama's only true all-inclusive, with 276 rooms set on a long beach east of Freeport that few people use. The formula runs around the clock, four restaurants and two bars, with a kids club and a solid list of included activities, including a trapeze.

The beach, and it is what you come for

Fortuna Beach is long, open and rarely busy. On an island that now receives millions of cruise passengers, that is a rare thing: the ships dock elsewhere, and this stretch of coast stays quiet. For walking a long way on sand without meeting many people, the address is excellent.

A main pool and a wading pool round things out. The landscaping, by contrast, is sparse, and exterior maintenance is regularly criticized.

What the formula covers

The all-inclusive is complete and runs continuously: all meals, all drinks, entertainment and activities. On the sports side the list is generous for a property in this bracket: non-motorized watersports, kayaking, paddleboarding, pickleball, tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, bicycles, and a trapeze, which teenagers love. A kids club operates on site.

Extra charges apply to scuba diving, shark and dolphin excursions, the spa and motorized sports.

Four tables, two by reservation

Junkanoo handles the international buffet from morning through the midday meal. Hacienda Don Diego serves Mexican in the evening, by reservation. The Viva Café offers fusion cooking, also in the evening, by reservation. A wood-oven Italian address completes the lineup, and a snack bar covers the beach.

The buffet is the weak point travellers flag: repetitive, with canned vegetables and a selection that varies little from day to day. The à la carte restaurants fare considerably better. Book yours on arrival to enjoy them several times in the week.

The rooms

Two categories only: Superior with a garden view, and Superior ocean view. A king or queen bed, four people maximum, terrace or balcony, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen television and a small fridge. Accessible rooms with roll-in showers are available.

No rollaway beds are offered: a real constraint for a family of five. The minimum check-in age is eighteen.

A note for families: the brand's corporate page carries an « adults only » mention that contradicts every other source and all the family reviews, including the existence of a kids club. We believe it is an error, but have your advisor clear it up at 1 866 628-6241 before booking as a family.

The condition of the place, said plainly

The score sits at 3.5 out of 5 across more than seven thousand seven hundred reviews. That is the lowest score of any hotel we sell in the Bahamas, with one exception, and the recent comments converge.

Travellers reported mould in several buildings in 2026, along with ants, broken bathroom doors, temperamental key cards and air conditioning that is either freezing or not working. One guest reported seeing a pool light detached at the bottom of the basin, wires still attached.

Management replies to the comments, but the underlying problem is underinvestment those replies do not fix. That is the Grand Bahama context: the island was devastated by Dorian in 2019 and its hotel stock has never been refinanced to match.

What the same reviews consistently praise, on the other hand, is the staff. The people who work here are warm, and it comes up in nearly every positive comment.

Freeport in 2026, the context

Grand Bahama passed the one million visitor mark for the first time in more than twenty-two years, carried by the opening of the Celebration Key cruise destination in summer 2025. Air arrivals grew about twenty percent year over year and now exceed pre-Dorian levels.

But the island receives millions of cruise passengers with a tiny hotel stock: a few hundred rooms for all of Grand Bahama. The major Lucaya redevelopment project began demolition in April 2026, with a 2028 opening target that remains to be confirmed.

Who this address suits

It suits families and travellers who want a straightforward all-inclusive on a quiet beach, tighter budgets, teenagers who want to try the trapeze, and those who know Grand Bahama is not Nassau and come for precisely that.
