Jolly Beach Antigua occupies a forty-acre property along Jolly Beach, a mile of white sand on the island's south-west coast. Opened in 1979, it closed in March 2020 and reopened on 1 December 2022 after a refurbishment, under a shortened name. It runs on an all-inclusive plan and sets a minimum guest age of twelve, which makes it an address for adults and teenagers rather than young families.

Jolly Beach Antigua at a glance

This is the largest hotel on Antigua, and one of the few all-inclusives on the island reachable on a reasonable budget. Forty acres of grounds along Jolly Beach, a beach of about a mile, low four-storey buildings put up in 1979, and a refurbishment completed in 2022.

The resort bets on simplicity rather than splendour: three restaurants, several bars, two pools including one with a swim-up bar, a spa, a beauty salon, tennis courts and all the non-motorised water sports. The plainness shows, and so does the price.

Closed or open? The answer is open

The question deserves a direct answer, because half the web gets it wrong. The hotel did close in March 2020, it went into receivership, and its fate made headlines on Antigua for two years. The government took the file in hand, the property was renovated, and it reopened on 1 December 2022.

It is trading today, with guest reviews dated summer 2026. Press articles from 2020 to 2022 nonetheless still rank well in search engines, and a client researching alone risks landing on outdated information. If you read somewhere that Jolly Beach is closed, that is what you read.

The neighbouring construction site: know before you go

A second confusion circulates, and this one deserves an honest explanation. A separate project, Nikki Beach Resort and Spa Antigua, has been under construction on adjacent Jolly Harbour land since late 2024, targeting a 2029 opening. It is not Jolly Beach, which continues to operate.

That said, a construction site is a construction site. Travellers in 2026 report that the beach remains fully accessible and that the works are visible without spoiling the stay. We would rather tell you in advance than let you find out. An AquaTerra advisor follows the progress and can give you the most recent picture. Call 1 866 628-6241.

Twelve and over: what that changes

The hotel sets a minimum guest age of twelve. No younger child can stay, and there is no kids' club.

For a family with young children the address is therefore out, and our advisors will send you elsewhere without hesitation. For a couple, a group of friends or a family of teenagers, the rule works in your favour: the calm of an adult property without the price of an adults-only one.

Which room to choose

Categories step up by space rather than by luxury. The Supersaver, the most modest, runs around eighteen square metres. Standard rooms, in king, twin or two-bed configurations, approach twenty-five. Superior rooms reach about thirty depending on layout.

All have a balcony or terrace. The exact inventory in service since the refurbishment is not published by the resort, and we would rather give no figure than a wrong one: your advisor will confirm real availability for your dates.

Where you eat on site

Three restaurants, and honesty requires saying it: that is few for an all-inclusive of this size. The Palms handles the breakfast buffet and an international dinner whose theme changes each evening. Coconut Grill runs the open-air bar and grill. Pizza Factory covers the rushed evenings.

The bars include the Cool Bar at the pool, the Pizza Factory bar and the Sand Bar on the beach, with a coffee counter during the day. A traveller who judges a stay by its number of restaurants will be better served elsewhere; one who comes for the beach and the price will do well.

Is it an all-inclusive?

Yes. The plan covers meals, drinks, activities and non-motorised water sports. Two charges are added and are worth knowing in advance: a daily resort fee and the government tourism levy, both modest but billed separately.

Our advisors price the whole thing in advance, fees included, rather than letting you discover them when the bill arrives.

The beach, the pools and the activities

Jolly Beach is the reason the resort exists. About a mile of white sand on the south-west coast, facing the sunset, with calm shallow water a good distance out. It regularly counts among the island's finest beaches.

Two pools, including the Fantasy Pool with its swim-up bar, complete the picture. Add a spa, a beauty salon, a gym, tennis courts, volleyball, a games room and the non-motorised water sports.

Who this resort suits

It fits couples and groups of friends who want a big beach and a reasonably priced all-inclusive without demanding seven restaurants. It fits families of teenagers, where the minimum age of twelve works in their favour. It fits anyone who came for the island rather than for the hotel.

Families with young children cannot stay. Anyone looking for a recent property, polished décor or wide culinary variety will be disappointed, and our advisors will tell you before you book rather than after.

What to know before you book

Jolly Harbour lies about fifteen kilometres from V.C. Bird International Airport, on the other side of the island. Antigua sits inside the hurricane belt, whose season runs from 1 June to 30 November, with a peak in August and September. High season runs December through April.

The East Caribbean dollar is the official currency, though US dollars circulate everywhere. Driving is on the left. Jolly Harbour village, with its shops and restaurants, is a few minutes away. For entry requirements, consult travel.gc.ca before departure.

Booking Jolly Beach Antigua with an advisor

This is the Antigua address where online information is most out of date. The hotel's status, the progress of the neighbouring works, the real fees and availability by category all check out better with someone who follows the file.
