Disneyland Resort in California Destinations

Disneyland Park opened in Anaheim in 1955 and remains the template for every park that followed. Disney California Adventure sits across an esplanade a three-minute walk away. Two parks, one short walk, which changes how a day is planned compared to Florida’s bus network.

Flying from Canada

Toronto and Vancouver both have nonstop service to the Los Angeles area; from Montreal expect either a longer nonstop or a connection. The flight costs more than Orlando and takes longer, and the trip is shorter: three or four park days rather than seven. That arithmetic is why most Canadian families we book pair Disneyland with Los Angeles, San Diego or the coast rather than flying five hours for theme parks alone.

A park reservation on top of your ticket

This is the difference that catches Florida regulars off guard. Walt Disney World dropped park reservations for dated tickets in January 2024. California still requires them: you need valid admission and a reservation for the same park on the same day.

A ticket bought without a reservation will not get you through the gate. Reservations are limited and busy dates go early, which makes this step as important as buying the ticket itself. Your Magic Maker handles it with you at booking.

Rides that exist nowhere else

Matterhorn Bobsleds, Indiana Jones Adventure, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride are Disneyland originals with no Florida equivalent. Across the esplanade, Radiator Springs Racers, the Incredicoaster, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Soarin’ carry Disney California Adventure.

Do not confuse it with Florida

Tom Sawyer Island still exists here as Pirates’ Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and the Mark Twain Riverboat still sails. Those are the Florida versions that closed. And there are three Disney hotels here, not thirty.
