Flights and Routes to Anaheim

Disneyland Resort sits in Anaheim, in Orange County, south of Los Angeles. The flight from Montreal is considerably longer than to Orlando, roughly six hours nonstop, and that is the first thing to build into the calculation.

Which airport to aim for

Three airports serve the area. John Wayne, in Santa Ana, is the closest at about twenty kilometres, roughly half an hour by road without traffic. Long Beach is a little further. Los Angeles International has the most service from Canada, about fifty kilometres out, but it is also where late-afternoon traffic can double the drive.

The time change works in your favour

California runs three hours behind Quebec. For the first few mornings your body will wake you at six local time without trying. That is a genuine advantage: the first two hours after opening are the quietest of the day, and a Quebecer arrives there naturally alert. The return trip is harder, but it happens at home.

A car, once you are there

The parks and the area hotels are entirely walkable. A car becomes necessary the moment you want to see anything beyond Anaheim, which is precisely what makes this trip worth taking.

Why not stop at the parks

Three or four days cover both parks, against a week in Florida. That freed-up time is what justifies the flight: Los Angeles is an hour away, San Diego two, and the Pacific coast opens northward. A ten-day trip pairing Disneyland with California often costs less than a full week in Florida, and it does not tell the same story when you get home.
