Unlike Florida, the California resort has three Disney hotels. That is few, and it changes how you choose where to sleep.

The three hotels on property

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the flagship and the only one with a private entrance directly into Disney California Adventure. That is its principal advantage, and it cannot be bought anywhere else.

The Disneyland Hotel is the historic property, with its towers and slide pool, and it now houses the Villas at Disneyland Hotel, larger and fitted with a kitchen.

Pixar Place Hotel is the third, themed throughout around the Pixar films.

A naming note that still trips people up

The Paradise Pier Hotel no longer exists under that name. It was rebranded as Pixar Place Hotel, and any guide still using the old name has not been updated. You will nonetheless still see it in plenty of comparisons.

Why off-property is a real choice here

Anaheim differs from Orlando in one decisive way: dozens of hotels sit within walking distance of the gates, many carrying Disney’s Good Neighbor designation. Staying off-property is not the compromise it is in Florida. On a three-day trip it is frequently the rational choice.

The question that actually decides it

It narrows to this: is the Grand Californian’s private entrance, and the on-property atmosphere, worth the gap for your family and your trip length? We answer that with numbers against your dates rather than with a brochure. Ask your Magic Maker.

Before deciding, compare with the Anaheim hotels: around fifty properties Disney recognises itself, several across the street from the gates. the Downtown Disney District sits between the hotels and the parks, with free entry. And tickets and park reservations explains the step not to miss. Back to Disneyland Resort in California.
