Right downtown. All four berths line the main street: from berths 1 to 3 everything is walkable, and berth 4, slightly farther north, is served by a free shuttle.
Yes, most of the core. Creek Street is a five- to ten-minute walk from the piers and the Totem Heritage Center about fifteen minutes. Only Saxman village, 4 km away, and Totem Bight State Park, 16 km north, need a bus, taxi or excursion.
Walk to Creek Street and its boardwalk on pilings, climb to the Totem Heritage Center, then add Saxman if time allows. Finish with a salmon meal near the piers. If you can pick only one thing, a floatplane flight over Misty Fjords defines the day.
A boardwalk of houses built on pilings above Ketchikan Creek, once the red-light district. Dolly's House, now a small museum, keeps the furnishings and the stories; galleries and shops occupy the pastel fronts today.
Yes, in summer, without leaving downtown. Thousands of salmon push up the creek beneath the Creek Street boardwalk toward their spawning beds, watched by seals that sometimes come right up to the houses. Outside the run, the creek is quiet.
Three sites, depending on your time. The Totem Heritage Center displays 19th-century poles recovered from abandoned Tlingit and Haida villages, unrestored, with their cracks and lichens intact. Saxman, 4 km away, and Totem Bight, 16 km north, stand restored or recarved poles in the open air.

Floatplanes from the harbour fly roughly two-hour tours, often landing on a mountain lake; fast boats offer a water-level alternative. Enormously: about 4 metres of precipitation a year on Revillagigedo Island. Locals call it liquid sunshine. Bring a hooded rain jacket rather than an umbrella and plan to be outdoors anyway — that water feeds the Tongass forest and brings the salmon up.
Yes. Downtown is walkable, the salmon and seals beneath Creek Street fascinate children, and the nearby funicular climbs to a viewpoint over the rooftops and the channel. Pack rain gear and shoes that handle wet boardwalks.
The US dollar, cards accepted everywhere. For an edible souvenir, vacuum-packed smoked salmon travels very well in a suitcase; the counters near the piers also serve crab and black cod.
