The “Escapade à Iguazú” getaway at a glance

Escapade à Iguazú (Iguazú Getaway) is a 3-day, 2-night Club Med short break devoted to the Iguazú Falls, on the border of Brazil and Argentina, starting and ending at Iguazú airport. The site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is explored from both sides: the Brazilian side on the afternoon of arrival, then the Argentine side the next day, over a full day. The last morning is free before the transfer to the airport. You stay at the Bourbon, a 4-star hotel, in the Comfort category, or at the Loi Suites, a 4-star hotel, in Superior Comfort. Transfers, breakfasts, visits and a private French-speaking local guide are included. It is a natural addition to a stay in Brazil, before or after a Club Med resort.

How do the three days in Iguazú unfold?

On day 1, your guide meets you at the airport, drops you at the hotel, then takes you to discover the Brazilian side of the falls. Day 2 is devoted entirely to the Argentine side, across the border. On day 3, the morning is free, then you are driven back to the airport for the rest of your trip. The programme is short and full: in two days, you have seen the site from every angle.

Why visit the falls from both sides of the border?

Because they are two different experiences. On the Brazilian side, the viewpoints offer the overall picture, the great panorama where you grasp the scale of the site. On the Argentine side, walkways take you as close as possible to the water, in the roar and the spray, to the edge of the Devil's Throat. Seeing both takes you from postcard to immersion, which is why the getaway takes two days rather than one.

Which hotel do you stay in at Iguazú?

The getaway comes in two categories. In Comfort, you stay at the Bourbon, a 4-star hotel. In Superior Comfort, you spend your two nights at the Loi Suites, also a 4-star hotel. Your advisor helps you choose according to your budget and the rest of your trip, and checks the rooms available on your dates.

What is included, and what do you pay for separately?

The package includes transfers, two nights with breakfast, visits to both sides of the falls, the private French-speaking local guide, porters and local taxes. Dinners are on your own, with a half-board option available. Also to plan are upgrades, single rooms, extra activities, drinks, tips, the annual Club Med membership fee and travel insurance.

Who travels with you during the getaway?

The getaway is private: a French-speaking local guide looks after you alone, your couple or your family. They know the trails, the best viewpoints and the border-crossing formalities, which makes the day on the Argentine side very smooth. Club Med assistance is available 24 hours a day throughout the trip.

When should you go to see the Iguazú Falls?

The falls can be visited all year. During the southern summer, from December to March, rains swell the flow and the falls are at their most spectacular, in humid heat. From April to November, the air is milder and the trails more pleasant to walk. Your advisor tells you which departures are offered and helps you fit the getaway into the rest of your trip.

How do you get to Iguazú from Quebec, and what documents do you need?

Iguazú is reached by flights from Montreal, with a stopover, and the getaway fits easily into a trip to Brazil. The transfer between the airport and the hotel is included. Since the visit crosses the Argentine border, keep your Canadian passport with you on day 2. Your advisor checks the entry requirements for Brazil and Argentina at the time of booking.
