When is Club Med Sahoro open?

The 2026-2027 season runs from December 3 to April 3. It covers the holidays, Quebec spring break in early March and Easter, on March 28, 2027. January and February bring the lightest snow. March offers longer days, sunshine that warms the terraces and powder that stays fresh on the upper slopes: it is often the best balance for a family discovering Japan.

How do you get to Sahoro from Quebec?

You fly from Montreal, with a connection. The closest airport is Obihiro, 1 hour 15 minutes from the resort. Through New Chitose, Hokkaido's main gateway, allow 2 hours 40 minutes by shared transfer, or 2 hours 10 minutes by private transfer. Shintoku station is 20 minutes away, for travellers arriving by train from Sapporo. Starting in December 2026, a non-stop flight will also link Vancouver and Sapporo. Our guide to travelling to Japan from Quebec helps you plan the journey.

What is the Sahoro ski area like?

The ski area has 25 km of runs, 10 well-marked alpine slopes, 3 freeride zones and 8 lifts, from the foot of the resort up to 1,030 metres. The 620-metre vertical faces the Tokachi plain, white as far as the eye can see. The wide slopes give beginners room to progress, and the freeride zones keep fresh lines for strong skiers. The resort is ski-in, ski-out: you step out of the ski room and you are on the snow.

Are ski and snowboard lessons included?

Yes. Group ski lessons are included from age 4 and snowboard lessons from age 8, for all levels, in English or Japanese. Guests 11 and over can also join guided snow hikes, freely. The lift pass is included. Equipment rental is extra: your advisor books it ahead so everything is ready in the ski room.

Is Club Med Sahoro good for young families?

Very much so. Petit Club Med welcomes children aged 2 and 3, at extra cost and by reservation. Mini Club Med+ takes ages 4 to 10, with ski lessons included, then Club Med Teens brings together ages 11 to 13 and the Chill Pass ages 14 to 17, both included. From December 2026, the Petit and Mini Club Med spaces adopt a new concept built around discovery and early learning. Because the resort is human-sized, children quickly find their bearings.

Which room should you choose at Club Med Sahoro?

For a couple, the Deluxe room offers 29 m². The Superior Junior Family, 27 m², sleeps up to three. Families of four love the Deluxe Family Tatami, 37 m²: you sleep on futons laid on the mats, as in a Japanese inn, and children adore it. The Master Family Deluxe, also 37 m², sleeps up to five. The Mountain View suite, 74 m², is the most spacious in the resort.

How do you unwind after skiing?

The heated indoor pool welcomes young and old in the late afternoon. The traditional Japanese bath, the ofuro, is included: you warm up there after a day at -10 °C, and an outdoor bath lets you watch the snow fall into the hot water. The Club Med Spa offers treatments on request, at extra cost. In the evening, the Wakka bar becomes the resort's living room.

What is the food like at Club Med Sahoro?

The Daichi, the renovated main restaurant, serves a buffet that showcases Hokkaido's regional cuisine, alongside familiar dishes for children. The Mina Mina, an izakaya-style specialty restaurant, offers small plates to share and nabe, the Japanese hot pot shared around the table. Bar drinks are included, from après-ski into the evening.

What is there to do around Sahoro?

The Tokachi plain is a farming region known for its dairy products and wide-open landscapes. Obihiro, a little over an hour away, is famous for butadon, a rice bowl topped with caramelized grilled pork. The resort offers excursions on request, and your advisor can add a few days in Sapporo, by train from Shintoku, for its markets and ramen bars.

Sahoro or another Hokkaido resort?

Sahoro appeals to those who want a warm resort, easy to enjoy with children, and an airy ski area. Tomamu, in the centre of the island, is larger, with its wave pool and Ice Village. To the northwest, near Otaru, Kiroro Grand is geared to families and Kiroro Peak to adults. See all our Club Med ski resorts and our Club Med resorts in Asia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kids' clubs start at age 2 with Petit Club Med, at extra cost, and continue up to age 17 within the package. Ski lessons start at age 4 and snowboarding at age 8. For the holidays and spring break, book Petit Club Med spots together with your stay.
January is the heart of winter in Hokkaido: it is often between -5 and -15 °C, with frequent snowfall and very dry powder. The sky often clears between storms, and the Tokachi plain then shines in the sun. Pack warm layers and good goggles.
Yes, Quebec spring break, in early March, falls in the middle of the season. The days are longer, the snow is still plentiful and the resort keeps its family atmosphere. Those weeks go fast, especially the Deluxe Family Tatami rooms, which we recommend booking in the fall.
In the traditional bath, you first wash seated under the shower, then enter the hot water without a swimsuit, usually with separate baths for men and women. The small towel stays out of the water. You get used to it in one evening, and many of our clients make it their end-of-day ritual.
English is enough at the resort: the teams speak it and ski lessons are given in English or Japanese. For outings to Obihiro or Sapporo, a few polite words and a translation app work wonders. Your advisor also gives you our practical tips for Japan.
Allow at least 7 nights at the resort to make the most of the snow, and 10 to 14 days in total if you add Tokyo or Sapporo. A full week lets you follow the lesson program from start to finish and see the children's progress.
Yes. Couples love the 29 m² Deluxe room or the Mountain View suite, evenings at the Mina Mina and the outdoor bath under the snow. The airy ski area is ideal for skiing together. For a quieter adults-focused stay, also look at Kiroro Peak.
Rental is available at the resort, at extra cost, with skis, snowboards, boots and helmets. Your advisor can book it ahead: your equipment then waits for you in the ski room, and you are on the slopes from the first morning. Bring your own warm clothing and goggles, which are more comfortable to wear.
Absolutely. Many of our clients start in Tokyo or Kyoto, then head up to Hokkaido for the ski week. For sunshine, another trip can take you to Club Med Kabira Ishigaki, in the south of the country. See also our ideas for Japan off the beaten path.
Yes, the Club Med Spa offers massages and treatments on request, at extra cost. The ofuro, the heated indoor pool and the outdoor bath are included. Book your treatments early in the week: late afternoons, after the slopes, are the most requested slots.
