Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique is a 24-hectare all-inclusive bungalow resort set in the Coubre state forest, between pine woods, dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, near Royan, in the Charente-Maritime region of France. Les Mathes beach is less than 300 metres away. Its 422 rooms welcome families, with children of any age, as well as couples. The package includes meals, the bar, sailing, windsurfing, wing foiling, tennis and kids' clubs for ages 4 to 17. It is a summer resort: the 2026 season ends on October 31 and the 2027 season resumes in April. On arrival, La Rochelle is 1 hour 15 minutes away by road.

When is Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique open?

This is a fair-weather resort. In 2026, it opened on April 10 and it closes on October 31. The 2027 season resumes in April and follows the same rhythm, from spring to fall. July and August are the liveliest months, with French families on holiday. For Quebecers, June and September are lovely choices: the ocean has warmed up or is still warm, the days are long and the beaches of the Côte Sauvage can be explored at your own pace.

How do you get to the resort from Quebec?

From Montreal or Quebec City, you fly to Paris or Bordeaux, with or without a stopover depending on the season. La Rochelle airport is the closest, 1 hour 15 minutes by road, and Bordeaux-Mérignac is 2 hours away. By train, Royan station is 30 minutes from the resort, and La Rochelle and Surgères stations are 1 hour 15 minutes away. Many travellers combine a few days in Paris or Bordeaux with their week on the Atlantic: your advisor arranges flights, train and transfers in a single booking.

What is the resort like?

You stay in bungalows scattered under the maritime pines, over 24 hectares. In the morning, the air smells of resin and salt, and a path leads to the beach in a few minutes. The resort has three heated pools: the main pool, a pool for children in the club and the Zen pool, designed for adults who want to read in peace. The Club Med Spa by Payot, at extra cost, completes the picture. Capacity is about 1,595 beds, which gives it a true holiday-village atmosphere, with shows in the evening.

Which room should you choose at Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique?

The Standard room, 13 to 34 m², sleeps 1 to 4 people. It suits couples or families who spend their days outdoors, between the beach and activities. The Deluxe room, 36 to 90 m², sleeps up to 6: it is the right option for large families or two generations travelling together. The 50 m² Suite is for 1 or 2 people, ideal for a couple who wants space. Your advisor checks the exact layout based on your children's ages.

Is the resort suitable for families with young children?

Yes, it is one of its great strengths. The resort welcomes children of all ages. Baby Club Med takes little ones up to age 2 and Petit Club Med ages 2 and 3, on request and at extra cost. Mini Club Med+ then looks after ages 4 to 10, included in the package. For ages 11 to 13, Club Med Teens, and for ages 14 to 17, the Chill Pass, are offered during French school holidays, from April 10 to August 28, 2027. The Family programme also offers activities to enjoy together.

Which activities are included in the package?

The Atlantic sets the tone: sailing, windsurfing, wingsurfing and wing foiling are included, with instruction. On land, you play tennis, try archery and get moving with beach bootcamp, Les Mills classes and Aquadynamic in the pool. Guided outings let you discover the forest and the coast. At extra cost: horseback riding courses, treetop adventure, bike rental to follow the cycling trails through the pine forest, and golf courses.

What is the food like at Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique?

Meals are included, along with drinks at the bar. L'Atlantic, the main restaurant, serves varied buffets from morning to evening. La Belle Époque, the resort's Gourmet Lounge, celebrates the region with Marennes-Oléron oysters and bouchot mussels, facing the ocean. As for bars, Le Phare is the heart of the entertainment, La Belle Époque is perfect for a sunset drink, the Zen pool bar stays peaceful, and a wine cellar lets you taste the wines of southwestern France.

Can you play golf near the resort?

Yes, and it is a great draw for golfers. The Golf de La Palmyre, a 9-hole par 36 course laid out in a 38-hectare pine forest with ocean views, is the resort's neighbour. The Golf de Royan, an 18-hole forest course in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, attracts more demanding players. The resort offers courses and green fees at extra cost. What is there to do around La Palmyre?

The region is best explored by bike or on excursions. La Palmyre Zoo, one of the most visited in France, is close by. By boat, you reach the Cordouan lighthouse, standing at sea at the mouth of the Gironde, or sail past Fort Boyard. Île d'Oléron and its oyster beds, the fishing village of Mornac-sur-Seudre and Talmont-sur-Gironde, perched above the estuary, are worth a day. Wine lovers head for the Cognac vineyards or Bordeaux. These excursions cost extra.
