Club Med Borneo at a glance

Club Med Borneo is a new all-inclusive resort opening in November 2026 in the Kuala Penyu district, in the state of Sabah, in northern Borneo, Malaysia. Set on 17 hectares between the jungle and the white sand of the South China Sea, facing lagoons and coral, it will have 400 rooms, including 39 suites gathered in the Mutiara Exclusive Collection space, a resort within the resort. Designed for families, it will welcome children from 4 months, with a water park. The package will include accommodation, meals, the bar and some thirty activities, from the flying trapeze to mangrove kayaking. The resort is about 2 hours by road from Kota Kinabalu.

When will Club Med Borneo open?

Club Med has announced the resort's opening for November 2026, and packages are already offered in Canada, departing from Montreal. The first weeks of a new resort have a special charm: everything is new, the teams arrive with opening-day energy and you discover the place among the first. The resort will be open for the holidays, Quebec spring break in early March and Easter, on March 28, 2027. Your advisor checks availability by room category on your dates with you.

How do you get to Club Med Borneo from Quebec?

You take flights from Montreal, with a connection, to Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the capital of Sabah. From there, it is about 2 hours by road southwest, along the coast and past rice fields, to Kuala Penyu. Brunei airport, about 4 hours by road, is another gateway. Your advisor arranges flights and transfers with the package and can suggest a night in Kota Kinabalu so you arrive rested.

What will the resort be like?

The architecture draws on the traditional longhouses of the Rungus people, with several pools and a water park for families. The resort is built to BREEAM environmental certification and is pursuing Green Globe certification. It will bottle its water on site, as part of Club Med's Bye-Bye Plastics programme. All around, the jungle runs down to the beach, and the lagoons are ideal for swimming and discovering the coral.

What is the Mutiara Exclusive Collection space?

It is a resort within the resort: 39 suites of 59 to 88 m², for one to four people, with more personalized services and a more intimate atmosphere, while enjoying all of the club's facilities. For a honeymoon, an anniversary or grandparents travelling with their grandchildren, it is the category to look at first, and also the one that goes fast.

Which activities will be included at Club Med Borneo?

The package will include the flying trapeze, archery, tennis, padel and pickleball. On the water, you will sail, stand-up paddleboard and kayak, including in the mangrove, where the jungle meets the sea. Yoga will come as power yoga, beach yoga and yin yoga. Children will enjoy the water park and the pedal boat with a slide, and the whole family can join environmental workshops and nature walks.

Is Club Med Borneo a good choice for families?

That is its purpose. The resort will welcome children from 4 months, with a baby welcome service. Baby Club Med will care for little ones up to age 2 and Petit Club Med for ages 2 and 3, with limited spots. Mini Club Med will then take ages 4 to 10, Club Med Teens ages 11 to 13 and the Chill Pass ages 14 to 17. A Family programme will also offer activities to share all together. Alcohol will be served to guests 21 and over, under Malaysian law.

What will the food be like at Club Med Borneo?

Alam, the main restaurant, will serve world and Asian cuisine around buffets with varied atmospheres. Le Laut, the Club Gourmet on reservation, will focus on fish and seafood, including ikan bakar, the charcoal-grilled fish Malaysians love. For bars, Le Pasir will be the place for cocktails and Le Bayu will round out the choice for a sunset drink.

Which room should you choose at Club Med Borneo?

The Superior room, 35 to 43 m², will sleep up to four: a generous size for a family with two children. The 45 m² Deluxe, for three, will suit a couple who want more space. The Exclusive Collection suites, 59 to 88 m², will sleep up to four. Your advisor helps you choose based on your children's ages and the pace you want.

What is there to see around the resort and in Sabah?

Borneo is discovered through its nature. From the resort, a river cruise will lead you to the proboscis monkey, the long-nosed monkey found only on Borneo, before the firefly outing at nightfall. The island of Pulau Tiga promises diving and mud baths in a natural volcano. Excursions will also introduce the living traditions of the peoples of Sabah. These outings will be extra, on reservation. Further afield, Mount Kinabalu, at 4,095 metres, towers over a park listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: a fine stop before or after the stay.

What is the weather like in Sabah?

The climate is tropical all year, with warm days around 30°C and warm water in every season. Showers are brief and part of the jungle setting: they feed the greenery and cool the end of the day. For a Quebec winter, the contrast is complete.
